Daniel Caesar Releases Cover of “Waiting In Vain” Ahead of Bob Marley EP

Daniel Caesar Releases Cover of “Waiting In Vain” Ahead of Bob Marley EP

In anticipation of the upcoming release of the EP BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE FILM), Daniel Caesar, the multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning artist, has shared his rendition of the iconic song “Waiting In Vain.” The EP, set to drop on Feb. 14th via Tuff Gong/Island Records, is part of the celebration surrounding the release of the highly anticipated film Bob Marley: One Love from Paramount Pictures.

The EP features seven essential compositions from the Jamaican reggae icon, including covers by contemporary artists like Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Jessie Reyez, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley, grandson of Bob Marley. The Marley family handpicked and approved all song selections, emphasizing the enduring relationship between Island Records, the Marley family, and Jamaica.

“My dad used to sing around the house a lot and play the guitar and one of his favorite songs to play was ‘Redemption Song’ – That was one of the first songs I remember learning how to play as well,” said Caesar.

Caesar also cites Bob Marley as an inspiration to his own artistry: “I love the idea of music where…if you’re going to say something, say something. It’s not all about aesthetic, he had something to say. Similarly, I have things to say – a lot of my music centers around expressing my emotions, but I have moments where I like to say something that is important and take a stance.”

The film Bob Marley: One Love delves into the life and music of the legendary musician, highlighting his message of love and unity. Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita, the movie hits theaters on Feb.14, 2024.

Daniel Caesar Apologizes For Drunken Diarrhea Of The Mouth

61st Annual GRAMMY Awards - Premiere Ceremony

Daniel Caesar has apologized. The R&B crooner says my bad for caping for YesJulz and saying that Black people shouldn’t be so mean to white people, sort of.

Days after getting canceled, Caesar made his apology via the same method he put his foot in his mouth, on Instagram Live.

“I was talking down to you guys, you know what I’m saying?,” said Caesar, who also said he was being pretentious.

He added, “I just got say I apologize for how I expressed my idea because that is where I went wrong. I believe in what I said and I just need…as a man I just…I can admit when I’m wrong.”

Wait, be believe in what he said? Someone point this guy to a history of racism Google search. Also, you can prepare the statement before going live with the “tyrannical rant” (his words) excuse.

Is this dude still canceled or nah?

DeRay Mckesson Says Daniel Caesar Is “Learning And Growing” After Chat About Systemic Racism

61st Annual GRAMMY Awards - Premiere Ceremony

Source: Jeff Kravitz / Getty

All those working toward racial equality were really disappointed in Daniel Caesar this week after he asked why Black people are “being so mean to white people?,” all while defending problematic culture vulture YesJulz. Thankfully, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson took it upon himself to have a conversation with the uncultured youth.

In case you missed it, YesJulz recently came for Black journalists Karen Civil and Scottie Beam via ItsBizKit, Murda Mook, and Movie Matt’s Easily Offended podcast. During their chat, the social media personality also tried to defend a tweet in which she asked if she could wear a “n*ggas lie a lot” t-shirt. She’s obviously ignorant as hell…but Caesar caped for her anyway.

“Why are we being so mean to Julz?” Caesar wanted to know. “Why are we being so mean to white people?”

“Why is that we’re allowed to be disrespectful and rude to everybody else, and when anybody returns any type of energy to us—that’s not equality,” he went on to ask during the Instagram Live rant. “I don’t want to be treated like I can’t take a joke!”

It only got worse from there.

“White people have been mean to us in the past, yeah, but what are you going to do about it? Tell me what you’re going to do about that?” he asked. “Are we on top of society? We’re not. You can’t win the game by choosing to not accept the winning team’s strategy. You have to acknowledge the strategy and build a strategy on top of that,” Caesar insisted.

Hopefully, after speaking to DeRay he’s seen the error of his ways, though we’re not sure his invite to the cookout will be reinstated anytime soon.

Are you ready to forgive, or nah?

DeRay McKesson Contacted Daniel Caesar After His YesJulz Commentary

Daniel Caesar caught the wrath of the Internet when he defended YesJulz a week after she offended Black women in the Hip-Hop community while attempting to defend her own miscues.
Caesar stated in an Instagram Live session, “Why are we being so mean to Julz? Why are being so mean to white people?” The perceived belief that the Black community was attacking white people in the culture for nothing, led to a collective, social media spanning dragging session.

“Why is that we’re allowed to be disrespectful and rude to everybody else, and when anybody returns any type of energy to us—that’s not equality. I don’t want to be treated like I can’t take a joke!”

Well, Mr. Caesar you have learned this situation is far from a joke.

After the onslaught of savage slander that attacked everything from his thought process to his appearance, social activist Deray McKesson revealed he spoke with Daniel Caesar, resulting in the singer “learning & growing.”

The only social media activity to come from Daniel Caesar after the uproar is an IG story upload showing sand crabs. Hopefully, Caesar issues some sort of a resolution soon.

Daniel Caesar Gets Dragged for Defending YesJulz

First, Murda Mook and now Daniel Caesar.

Let the cancellation begin. Daniel Caesar decided to hop on Instagram Live last night and share his unnecessary thoughts and opinions on the YesJulz incident. Julz is a social influencer who was also slammed for calling out Scottie Beam, Karen Civil, and Joe Budden. Because of Julz’s racially insensitive comments of the past, her statements were not taken lightly. Daniel Caesar decided to chime in.

The Grammy Award-winning crooner starts his IG live video by asking, “Why are we being so mean to Julz?”

“Why are we being so mean to white people right now? It’s a serious question. Why is that we’re allowed to be disrespectful and rude to everybody else, and when anybody returns that energy to us…..I don’t want to be treated like I can’t take a joke!” People immediately began flooding the comments section of his Instagram Live with reasons why they didn’t agree with his opinion, to which he responded, “White people have been mean to us in the past, yeah, but what are you going to do about it? Tell me what you’re going to do about that? There’s no answer, other than creating and understanding and keeping it moving. You have to bridge that gap.”

Although the “Best Part” singer admits to being drunk during the rant, it is not an excuse. Drunken words, speak sober thoughts. Caesar will remain unapologetic about his comments. He urges black people to stop playing the victim because it is not a means of income.

“I think you guys are wrong and I think I’m right. You can cancel me. I’m making music right now and you guys don’t have to listen to it.”

PSA to ALL Black Men: Please stop capping for YesJulz.

Dave Chappelle Refuses To Apologize After Calling Singer Daniel Caesar Gay (Video)

Sunday night (March 10), Dave Chappelle and R&B singer Daniel Caesar made guest appearances on John Mayer’s Instagram Live show Current Mood. The encounter between the comedian and the “Get You” singer, however, was fumbling and awkward. The moment Mayer introduces Daniel Caesar for a performance, Chappelle interjects and comments, “very gay.” “What?” Mayer reacts after processing what Chappelle said. Chappelle continued, “Huh? Oh, I’m sorry, did I say that out loud? I’m just kidding.” Dave Chappelle Wins Best Comedy Album Grammy For 2nd Straight Year After reading the room, which had scattered laughter, Chappelle counters with more humor. “Daniel Caesar is a musician from Toronto that I just met tonight — Black,” he continues. “I got jealous. I didn’t know John had other Black friends.” “What the f*ck was that?” Caesar is heard saying off-camera. “What I said?” Chappelle responds. “Did I offend you?” “Yeah,” Caesar reveals. Dave Chappelle Details The Night R. Kelly Confronted Him With His Goons John Mayer then steps in to handle damage control, getting both parties to agree that they were drunk. “Oh my God, if I fistfight tonight I’m going to be furious,” Chappelle continues to joke, ignoring Caesar’s obvious gripe. “Dave,” Mayer continues, “People just saw for a minute what happens when you speak freely, and there’s alcohol in your hand, and you’re working free association, and you accidentally say something that trips someone’s feelings up.” “The wrong word is ‘accidentally,'” Chappelle interjects, double-downing on his initial joke. Dave Chappelle & Jon Stewart Talk Politics Unusual (Video) “Of course it’s an accident, but you have to clean it up. It’s a three-second clean-up,” Mayer continues. “No!” Chappelle says. “The guy is working on for the first time on social media,” Mayer says, “I don’t want to speak for you.” Chappelle then attempts to silence Mayer and speak toward the camera while addressing Caesar, who is still off camera: “Before this broadcast started, me and this brother sat at a piano. He played expertly, beautifully, I had never met him before. And I knew for a fact that I was in the presence of not just someone that was good, but someone that was great. But the fact that I offended you as a comedian…” Dave Chappelle Has A Serious Conversation About Living A Happy Life (Video) “I’m being sensitive,” Caesar says. “Correct,” Chappelle agrees. Mayer is heard in the background still attempting to steer the conversation, saying “I don’t think that’s true.” “I’m trying to think about this,” Caesar says. “Maybe I am being sensitive.” Chappelle countered, “Daniel, I thought about it. You are.” At the very end of the video, viewers see Caesar and Chappelle making up for the camera. Daniel Caesar Has The Makings Of A Great Modern-Day Soul Singer. Just Watch (Video) Notably, this is not the first time Chappelle has made remarks about members of the LGBTIQ+ community. On his first two Netflix specials, The Age Of Spin and Deep In The Heart Of Texas, Chappelle made jokes aimed toward both transgender and gay people within his act. At the time of those specials, The Guardian‘s Brian Logan analyzed the comedy of Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais, especially as it pertains to the LGBTIQ+ community. “[Dave] Chappelle spends substantial time across the two shows joking about gay and transgender people, usually from the perspective of a bemused straight man who finds those other identities inherently amusing,” wrote the author, who does not agree that comedians have license to say whatever they want under the auspices of “jokes.” Dave Chappelle & Kendrick Lamar Have A Deep Conversation Between 2 Masters At Work As the line between what’s funny and what’s offensive is shifting, Dave Chappelle and Daniel Caesar’s exchange may have shown some of that evolution in real-time.
