Q&A With Dangy Omen X

Yo Dangy Omen X!!  We really appreciate you rocking with UGHHBLOG!  You’re definitely a true stand out artist.  Please tell us how many years you’ve been making music?  For those unfamiliar, please shed some light on your background in the Hip Hop game.  Please detail.

I put out my project Dead Poets Society in 2007 afterwards I took a 13 year hiatus & returned in 2020 on the request of a close friend with The Blackmail Album.  During the recording of the Blackmail album, Dangy connected with Precise aka Cise HD of Big Boy Records the multiplatinum producer who introduced the world to the likes of Mystikal, Juvenile, & Fiend.

We really respect the fact that you’re a TRUCKER. How has Hip Hop helped in your career?

Citizens Band Radio is a representation of Dangy’s time as a trucker. He has been trucking just as long as he has been rapping.  The CB radio has a Confederate flag face the radio is overheating and the American flag is catching fire because of a it.

Please shine some light on your home town, how is the underground Hip Hop scene out there?

I’m from New Orleans the home of bounce music. Trucker Bounce the single is a tribute to N’awlins bounce.

When compared to other artists, what is it about Dangy Omen X that stands out and makes you unique from the pack. Please detail.

My lyrical style is poetic and my flow is offbeat & syncopated in New Orleans Jazz style. This makes me very different from the normal these days.

Wow, your latest album “Citizens Band Radio” is a true BANGER in our books! Tell us the story behind your recent project, And a little about the album cover concept!

The 3rd verse if Radio Silence is my favorite on the EP. “Microphone Check its Dangy Omen X I’m a nervous wreck Co-workers are murderous in neon bullet proof vest, better check your pervious chest and your testicular size this vehicular homicide when we ride or die”

What’s your favorite track off your latest album, and why? And please reference your favorite bar from this song that highlights your elite level lyricism.

This song is describing an assault on mainstream radio stations by the underground Hip Hop Trucker. The hook states “Megahertz in a Hearst” so the die die is aimed at wack radio like Hip Hop is Dead by Nas.

For this new year 2021, what do we have to look forward to when it comes to new Dangy Omen X music? Please reference your forthcoming projects that you’re at liberty to speak of.

2021 Dangy has undergone rebranding and now identified as Xcaliber Da Omen. He will be releasing several EPs this year with the next titled Creature Features scheduled for Mardi Gras 2021. This EP features Ras Kass, Killah Priest, & Kurupt among others.

Due to the pandemic, how are you pivoting with making music around this whole Covid 19 situation?

Covid is making me put out as much music as I can so be on the lookout for a new EP every few weeks.

We have to ask, with all this social discourse and revolt, protesting and rioting, exposed police brutality toward blacks and BLM, how do you guys feel about this? We would love your perspective on the climate we are living in right now?

I named a song on Blackmail after BLM listeners can stream it on all major platforms for my viewpoint.

Our most popular question!! What is your definition of “underground Hip Hop”?

Dangy Omen X – “Citizens Band Radio” (EP Review)

Dany Omen X is an New Orleans trucker turned rapper. ‘Citizen Band Radio’ is his latest EP. This project can be described as a “driving while black” themed EP Centring on the perspective of a black trucker in the American countryside. The EP is five tracks long and features production from multi platinum producer, DJ Precise.

“Trucker Bounce” is the first track on the project and, in my opinion, the best song on the EP. DJ Precise did a good job on the production, using heavy base and melodic keys to hold everything together. Dangy’s performance features some clever rhymes and a catchy hook. He has fun on this.

“Dammit Boy” is a stand out track. I love when artists hit you with their best first. The jazzy production is so clean and allows Dangy to ride the beat with his improvisational, spoken word style. He even fits in a bar alluding to his upcoming rebrand, “Xcalibre…” The hook could have been a bit more interesting, but the song still holds its own.

“Pride” is another stand out.  Once again, a great beat choice to compliment his style. Dangy’s flow is unorthodox, but it works! The same could be said about the hook but it all works together well with those super clean 808’s. I would have liked to hear a second verse, maybe with a feature. Regardless, it was a cool way to end the project.

All in all, this is a decent short body of work. I personally would have liked to hear a little more lyrical substance, although I admit that some of the trucker references may have just gone over my head. Have a listen for yourself and follow Dangy Omen X on Instagram: @xcaliberdaomen

Score: 7/10
