This past weekend, veteran actor and comedian Damon Wayans took to the airwaves in Houston to call out famed funnyman Dave Chappelle to challenge him in the first-ever comedian Verzuz battle.

During his visit up to H-Town’s 97.9 The Box, Wayans said that he’s never seen a Verzuz challenge, but was all for going up against the best in the comedy game in the potential first time ever challenge.

Neither Swizz, Timbaland nor Dave Chappelle answered Wayans’ call out as of yet.

‘Sherman’s Showcase’ to Premiere on IFC

IFC has given the green light for a series pickup to a sketch variety comedy Sherman’s Showcase from writers Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle. The show is being executive produced by John Legend and his Get Lifted Film Co.

The series is a spoof of the 1970s and ’80s musical variety shows with Salahuddin playing host Sherman McDaniel. The show will feature faux clips of bands and comedians from various decades. RadicalMedia is also producing. IFC has ordered eight episodes.

“People think of us as comedy guys, when in fact we’re really just frustrated rap-singers that never got signed to Murder Inc.,” Salahuddin and Riddle said in a statement. “But now we finally have a platform for all the songs that were ever rejected in our career.”

Salahuddin and Riddle are Late Night with Jimmy Fallon alums who were known for their “Slow Jam the News” and “History of Rap” segments on the Tonight Show host’s former NBC series. The pair created and star in of the Comedy Central series South Side. Salahuddin also is a regular on Netflix’s GLOW, while Riddle is a regular on the NBC comedy Marlon and drama Rise.

Guest-starring in the series’ first season are Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor, Common, Morris Day, Tiffany Haddish, Lil Rel Howery, Quincy Jones, Mike Judge, Kenny and Keith Lucas, John Legend, Nigel Lythgoe, Curt Menefee, Vic Mensa, Tawny Newsome, Ne-Yo, Ray Parker, Jr., Mario Van Peebles, Damon Wayans, Jr., Marlon Wayans and Bresha Webb.

Damon Wayans is out. The actor and comedian abruptly announced his departure from his Lethal Weapon TV series.

Reports Variety:

In an interview with the website Eurweb.com, Wayans said that he plans to exit the Warner Bros. Television-produced drama after finishing production on the 13 episodes ordered by Fox for season three.

“I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13,” Wayans said in a video interview. “So I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning. I’m a 58-year-old diabetic and I’m working 16-hour days.”

Asked by his off-camera interviewer, “So you’re over it?” Wayans replied — referencing his character from the series, “I’m done. Like Murtaugh said, I’m too old for this.” Asked if he’s kidding, Wayans shook his head and said “No.” As for what he’s going to do next, Wayans added, “I’m going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again.”

Season 3 of Lethal Weapon kicked off September 25 on FOX.

Either Wayans really is “over it” or he just cooked up one hell of a raise if FOX wants to really keep him around.
