Comme des Garçons Apolagizes For Outfitting White Models With Braid Wigs

Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus : Runway - Paris Fashion Week - Menswear F/W 2020-2021

You ever see something so egregious that you first question if it is actually real? One of the biggest fashion houses in the world just played themselves big time.

In what seems to be the 2020 edition of how couture can be culturally clueless Comme des Garçons showed they are truly racially reckless. As spotted on Madame Noire the Japanese fashion label recently debuted their their fall winter 2020 menswear collection during their show at Paris Fashion Week. While their wears were largely well received by critics for their use of patterns their styling left many feeling in a ways.

Their models all walked the runway wearing braided lace front wigs; including the white ones which was largely viewed as a big no no. So much so the company faced severe backlash online for what seems to a clear cut case of cultural appropriation.

The uproar was so deafening that the brand issued a formal apology via a statement to DAZED. “The inspiration for the headpieces for Comme des Garçons menswear FW’20 show was the look of an Egyptian prince. It was never ever our intention to disrespect or hurt anyone – we deeply and sincerely apologise for any offense it has caused.”

Julien D, the hairstylist behind the ill-fated wigs, also explained her approach. “My inspiration for the comme des garçons show was Egyptian prince A Look i found truly beautiful and inspirational. A look that was an hommage. Never was it my intention to hurt or offend anyone , ever.If I did I deeply apologize.” she wrote.

This is not the first the time Comme des Garçons has been under fire for cultural insensitivity. To date they have only booked a handful of Black models since their launch.

Miley Cyrus Reaches Settlement In $300M Lawsuit For Shark Biting

Miley Cyrus got caught culture vulturing red-handed, and now has to pay up. The singer has reached a settlement in the $300M lawsuit against her for biting a Reggae tune without permission.

Cyrus was sued for copyright infringement for her for 2013 hit “We Can’t Stop” from her album Bangerz. In 2018, the lawsuit was filed by Jamaican songwriter Michael May, who said her song liberally interpolated his 1998 hit “We Run Things.”

May performs as Flourgon and claimed Cyrus took his phrase “We run things. Things no run we,” and sang “We run things. Things don’t run we” on her Mike Will Made It, P-Nasty, and Rock City-produced song.

Per Reuters, the defendants, Cyrus and Sony, filed a joint stipulation that ended lawsuit with prejudice on Friday (Jan. 3) in Manhattan federal court. May won’t be able to file a lawsuit on the same grounds again, but he surely caught a nice check since the filing of the dismissal means he got his dough.

However, the terms of the settlement, which Rolling Stone reports was made late last year, will be kept private.

We’re going to go ahead and assume that OG Brooklyn Hip-Hop group Da Bush Babees, whose Ali Shaheed Muhammad produced “We Run Things (It’s Like That)” uses the same phrasing on its hook, were either too under the radar or at least got the sample cleared.

On another note, back in June, Cyrus apologized for racially insensitive comments she said about Hip-Hop a couple of years prior when she called the genre “lewd.” Not so coincidentally, she got dragged by Nicki Minaj shortly thereafter—the universe often balances things out.

Chuck D has had enough with messy daytime talk shows. He took to social media to shame two of the biggest culture vultures in the game.

As spotted on Complex the Long Island native felt a serious ways when surfing through the television recently. On Tuesday, November 19 the “Fight The Power” rapper called out Jerry Springer and Maury Povich for their long history of exploiting people of color via their scandalous paternity test reveals and rigged race baiting confrontations.

“Just how much the fed$ pay these old white dudes like Maury & Jerry showtiming young folks dysfunctional sht on Air …especially young blacks,” he tweeted. “Beware of elder media Nucointelpro buzzards hovering. Everything ain’t entertainment in fact it’s exploitation.” The post included a screenshot of The Maury Povich Show titled “My wife admitted to cheating … are these my children.”

While Mista Chuck is synonymous with his criticism about the social injustice issues in America this is the first time he has taken clear shots at the two hosts. But it seems like the disapproval from Hip-Hop isn’t slowing down Povich’s money moves. He recently announced that he will be releasing a board game called “You’re Not The Father”. According to the Amazon listing the game is “Based on the TV show you know and love, this hilarious adult party game lets players prove their nonpaternity Maury-style and revel in hysterical banter along the way!”

Tech N9ne Checks Fans Who Call Eminem A Culture Vulture [Video]

Power 106 Presents Powerhouse 2018

Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty

Tech N9ne is without a doubt one of the top-performing Hip-Hop acts in the world as evidenced by his heavy touring schedule and longevity. Given that the Kansas raper has fans who typically aren’t your typical Hip-Hop fans, he took a moment to call out fans who declared Eminem a culture vulture.
In an Instagram video, Tech N9ne is seen speaking in the clip that’s been chopped up to emphasis the point that he is an artist influenced by a variety of styles despite his chosen professional genre of Hip-Hop.

When he explained that he’s able to rock various types of venues, including hard rock festivals, Tech asked rhetorically if anyone would consider him a culture vulture and that it’s asinine as far as he’s concerned that anyone would assume Eminem is one as well.

Check out the clip below.

While Tekashi 6ix9ine sings like a bird in order to duck fed time, details about the real person behind the persona are emerging. Sara Molina, the mother of Tekashi’s child, called the rapper a culture vulture among other things in a new interview.

Complex
writes:

“He could definitely reinvent himself, I’ve seen him do it a million times,” she says during the interview. “He’s like a culture vulture, he can adapt to anything.” During the newly released clip, she explained that 6ix9ine hadn’t been manipulated into acting the way he did and that he was merely manipulating those around him. “I feel like in a way these grown men were manipulated by this little rainbow haired kid,” she said.

“Money and fame will make people do a lot of things,” she continued. “I was manipulated… He’s a narcissist, I’m telling you that now. He’s very smart, I give him that. If I can give Danny [6ix9ine] credit for anything… His brain works in an evil way but it’s smart.” Following his admission to involvement in three different violent incidents in 2018, the rapper is currently facing a 47-year minimum sentence on racketeering, weapons, and drug charges.
