Wad up guys! We really enjoyed your latest project “Take Flight”, and congrats on this being your debut! “What motivated you guys to create this style of music and get together to form this group?
Wattup UGHH Team! We appreciate you guys taking the time to check out the project. Our team consists of 4 guys – Ace, BK Fire, Kaiba and Pascal – we’ve been best friends since high school and always had an interest in music. We started taking it seriously about 3 years ago and since then things have steadily progressed. Our confidence steadily increased as our skillset grew. The style of music we make honestly comes naturally from the personalities we have on our team. Everything we make comes from a natural passionate drive and freestyle flows which we then form into songs. The name ‘Create The Culture’ represents the energy in our music and the mission we’re looking to accomplish in the music industry as well as the impact we hope to have on the Culture. Honestly listening to our music is the best way to understand what we’re trying to do. We hope listeners can pick up on the energy.
How did you come up with your name Create The Culture?
We were brainstorming a lot of different ideas, but when Create The Culture (CTC) was mentioned, we all kind of paused….looked at each other…we knew this was the one.
How is the underground sound out in your area of Canada?
Honestly we aren’t super aware of the whole underground scene here in Canada, we kind of just stay in our own lane and try to stay focused. Our biggest inspirations are a lot of “commercial” artists (Drake, Weeknd, Kid Cudi, Zedd, Arizona Zervas, The Kooks). We don’t really consider ourselves ‘underground’ but moreso just try to make music we really like and music others can connect with.
How are you guys dealing with this whole Covid-19 Corona Virus? Has this affected your music career in any way?
At first it was definitely hard. We all live in the same city but went home and spent some time with our families. We were upset because a lot of our plans were put on hold, but overall it was definitely a positive for us. It helped all of us personally reflect on a lot of things in our own lives, and now we’re back with a re-energized focus and clarity of our vision. It’s unfortunate what’s been happening around the world, but at the end of the day it’s out of our hands. All we can really do is find our peace, handle our own affairs and keep things moving.
What separates you from other Hip Hop groups in the game today?
I think the energy we infuse into our music stands out from others in the game today. We really enjoy bumping our own music, but we are also very critical of all of our work. We don’t get super excited over a new record and think ‘this is the one!’. We stay focused and work on all the small details until we are satisfied with the mix/sound/production, and then we exhale. Our producer, BK Fire, is extremely versatile, as well as all of our vocalists (3). We enjoy making music that is primarily HipHop, but we have a lot of commercial Pop and EDM records in the chamber as well that we really like. I’d say our versatility definitely helps us stand out from other groups.
Who are your biggest underground influences?
Being straight up, we don’t listen to a ton of underground music. We always seem to find artists who are super lit but haven’t blown up yet. For example, we listened to Khalid’s ‘Location’ when it was only at a few 100K streams, we knew that kid was going to be a star. Our biggest influences overall are definitely Drake, The Weeknd, Kid Cudi, The Kooks, Zedd, Avicii and Khalid.
You guys recently dropped a new EP titled “Take Flight” across all streaming platforms!Please give us some background on that project!? Could you tell me the inspiration behind the project and artwork?
Most definitely. For the last few years we’ve been working to find our sound and improving our craft. Upto this point we had released only Singles and we finally thought it was time to release a small project to show where we are at mentally and musically. We knew we were far more skilled and had progressed a lot as artists over the last few years and felt we are ready to take on the world and take things to the next level. We had a few songs that meshed well together but then about a month before the project was released we created 3 more songs that fit the vibe perfectly, these 3 songs were ‘Venice’ and ‘Model’ and ‘Thinking of You’. We knew these 5, including the order we dropped them in, were the ones.
Up to this point we had not shown our faces on social media on our main instagram (@ctc_sound) – we only posted things with blurred faces and unknowns. But after this project dropped, we felt confident to stand behind our craft and finally come out to the world, and alot of our hometown friends, as musicians.
‘Take Flight’ represents our mindset moving forward – that we’re ready to take on the world, the industry, and whatever challenges we will face to push our music and our art as far as we can.
How does social media play a role in pushing Create The Culture music?
We’ve only been showing our faces in our posts for the last 6 months, so we are a little new to the game. We’re learning the ins and outs and making progress in terms of growth and engagement, but this is one area we are really focussing on moving forward. We feel the sound is ready to be heard by millions, but our online presence needs to be heavily increased.
What are a few different moves you guys are making for 2020 when it comes to your music careers?
Great question – we have some doors open to us, but we are looking to further improve our sound and hopefully find a Record Label that sees our vision and can help us take things to the next level. In the meantime we’re staying patient and building our foundation – more music videos, more singles and more growth in all areas to build a solid foundation on which we can build.
Our most popular question….What is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop?
Underground HipHop to us is artists who are different from the mainstream – their music, their sound and their vibe isn’t made to appeal to the masses – but it’s made as pure art to get out their deepest thoughts and emotions. But the people the music does connect with, it connects with deep. It’s not made for commercialization, but for something more.
