SOURCE SPORTS: Suns Win Game 1 Of The NBA Finals 118-105

Suns Finals Opener

The Phoneix Suns went on a third-quarter eruption on their way to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 118-105 Tuesday night in game 1 of the 2021 NBA Finals played in Phoenix Suns Arena.

By the end of the third period, the Suns’ trio of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton had already combined for 67 points, 27, 22, and 18 respectively.

“I saw the shots they were giving me, and I just started making them,” said the 17-year vet in a post-game interview.” It’s just one game, we got to stay locked in. We got one, we got to get another one.”

The lead extended to as many 20 points 88-66, and Suns point guard Chris Paul, who finished the game with 32 points and nine assists, anchored the third-quarter avalanche by scoring 16 points.

The Bucks began to show life in the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to 7 points after a 7-foot jumper by Jrue Holiday, a layup by Kris Middleton, Byran Forbes three-pointer, and a second chance layup by Giannis Antetokounmpo. That brought the score to 101-94 with 7:16 left to go.

Pheonix quieted the storm with a Booker three off, and the Suns took control of the rest of the game. Booker finished with 27 points six assists, and Ayton had 22 points and 19 rebounds.

Middleton led the Bucks with 29 points and seven rebounds, and Antetokounmpo added 20 points and 17 rebounds.

The two teams exchanged buckets for the most part in the first quarter, but the Suns did enough to hold a 4-point 30-26 advantage.

The Suns doubled their lead in the second quarter as they went into the half with an 8-point 57-49 lead, but the Bucks had no answer for the Suns in the third.

Midway through the quarter, the Suns took off and doubled their point total. They led by 16 with 4:41 to go in the third quarter and closed with the quarter leading by 17.

LeBron, CP3, Giannis Celebrate New Format After 157-155 Team LeBron All-Star Win

LeBron James’ team has won the NBA All-Star Game every year since drafting players set up teams. The latest was Team LeBron going over Team Giannis 157-155 in Chicago.

Team LeBron supported Chicago Scholars and will receive a grand total of $400,000. Team Giannis’ After School Matters will receive $100,000.

The game proved to be more competitive than years past and created a thrilling finish beyond a new format that provided a target score. The idea was introduced by NBA All-Star Chris Paul.

“I know I’m always competitive whenever I play,” Chris Paul said. “But the good thing about our league is we’re always adding things and trying new things and trying to figure out from my fans what they like.

“This was an idea I brought to Adam. Thankfully, we tried it out, so I was asking the guys how they enjoyed it during the game and at the end of the game. So you all be sure to ask him.”

The idea was also applauded by LeBron James stating the game was fun.

“That was fun. Having to play for a set number and seeing that — I’ve watched a lot of basketball in the summertime, and I forgot the name of the league where the guys, you know, their alma mater, they go back and play for their teams and things of that nature, they have a set number they have to get to that, that $2 million championship tournament. Maybe you don’t watch basketball in the summer,” James said.

“After the game, my brother came down, and he said, this has been the most fun All-Star he’s been a part of,” said Giannis Antetokounmpo. “And I asked him why, and he told me, ‘Because you guys were really competitive. You guys were playing to win.’ Team Giannis, that’s what we were trying to do. We were trying to come out, set the tone, play hard. Especially in the fourth quarter, the defense got tighter. Guys were hitting one another. Every possession counts. We had a little bit of playoff intensity out there.”

The NBA will return to regular-season action this Thursday, headlined by a double-header of the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers followed by the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors on TNT.

The Jig Is Up?: Chris Paul & James Harden Relationship Allegedly “Unsalvageable”

Houston Rockets v Washington Wizards

Source: Rob Carr / Getty

Even when the action stops on the court, there is still plenty of it off the hardwood thanks to the drama that is the NBA offseason. The Houston Rockets at the beginning of the 2018-19 season were one of the few teams picked to dethrone the Golden State Warriors. Well, we know that didn’t happen, and the Rockets flopped getting bounced by a hobbled Warriors team, and now an eye-opening report has surfaced hinting at a sour relationship between the teams two superstars.

Is the jig up when it comes to the pairing of Chris Paul and James Harden? According to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports damaging report apparently so. He claims the relationship between the NBA superstars is “unsalvageable” and the two players want to get away from each other ASAP according to league sources. CP3 went as far as to demand a trade, while the beard pretty much told the team its either him or me.

Per Yahoo Sports:

Paul went to Rockets management and demanded a trade, and Harden issued a “him or me” edict following the Rockets’ second-round loss to the Golden State Warriors, sources said.

The backcourt mates went nearly two months without speaking to each other during the season, sources said, creating a tenuous environment for teammates and everyone involved with the franchise.

Harden hasn’t returned Paul’s repeated attempts at communicating this offseason, sources said, after a year in which the pair repeatedly got under each other’s skin with petty acts in practices and games.

Paul has been known to clash with teammates during his career, most notably with the Los Angeles Clippers before being traded to Houston in the summer of 2017. Up until this season, his production ranked among the best at his position in NBA history, but he’s had to curtail his style while acclimating to Harden’s pace.

“There’s no respect at all, on either side,” a source told Yahoo Sports. “They need to get away from one another. Chris doesn’t respect James’ standing in the league, and James doesn’t respect the work Chris has put into this point.”

Paul’s injury-related absences and grating personality have annoyed Harden, sources said.

Paul has subsequently denied the allegations levied against him by hopping in the comment section of an Instagram post talking about the situation and replying “Damn! That’s news to me.”

Whatever the case might be, the Rockets are reportedly shopping the “point god” but are having a hard time trying to find a team who would take on his bloated contract that features a heft player option for the 2021-22 season. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has assured fans that the team has no desire to move Chris Paul, but we have all heard that before from team’s front offices before in regards to players.

Brandon Ingram, Rajon Rondo & Chris Paul Suspended For Fades & Fisticuffs

Houston Rockets v Los Angeles Lakers

Source: Harry How / Getty

You knew this was coming. LA Lakers Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo and Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul have all be suspended for their part in an on-court brawl.

It all went down, and was thoroughly discussed on Twitter, during LeBron James’ home debut as a Laker on Saturday night (Oct. 20).

Ingram has been suspended 4 games, Rondo 3 games and CP3 will be off for 2 games, all without pay.

Per the NBA:

Ingram has been suspended for aggressively returning to and escalating the altercation and throwing a punch in the direction of Paul, confronting a game official in a hostile manner, and instigating the overall incident by shoving Rockets guard James Harden. Rondo has been suspended for instigating a physical altercation with, and spitting and throwing multiple punches at, Paul. Paul has been suspended for poking at and making contact with the face of Rondo, and throwing multiple punches at him.

Rondo disputes that he spit on Paul, maintaining that he couldn’t have done so since he was wearing his mouthpiece.

Needless to say, the conspiracy theories and debates are ongoing.
