Drake Cuts Surprise Concert Short After Being Booed At Camp Flog Gnaw (Video)

Last night (November 10), Drake was a surprise guest at Tyler, The Creator and OFWGKTA’s fifth-annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. The two-day Los Angeles, California music festival included headlining performances by Tyler, The Internet, YG, and Solange, among others. Sunday night’s lineup featured question marks, leading to lots of speculation. While Odd Future fans presumably anticipated the return of onetime OFWGKTA affiliate Frank Ocean (which would have marked his first appearance in several years), they received Drake. He took the stage following fellow unannounced performers Lil Uzi Vert and A$AP Rocky. According to The Los Angeles TimesMikael Wood, as the OVO superstar opened his set with “Started From The Bottom,” vocal attendees in the Dodger Stadium parking lot jeered—not cheered the performance.

However, as the crowd continued to erupt, the artist addressed show-goers. “I’m here for you tonight,” Drake said into the microphone. “If you wanna keep going, I will keep going tonight. What’s up?” A pause gave way to boos. “Well, look, it’s been love. I love y’all. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me.” Drake reportedly left the stage 20 minutes ahead of plan. Wood reports that subsequent “We want Drake!” chants morphed into “We want Frank!” before an unlit stage. Frank Ocean recently released two songs, including “DHL” and “In My Room.” Tyler, The Creator Repeatedly Flirts With Funkmaster Flex In An Insane Freestyle Today (November 11), Tyler addressed the incident. “I thought bringing one of the biggest artist on the f*cking planet to a music festival was fire,” he wrote, in all capital letters. “But [on the] flipside, [it may have been] a lil’ tone-deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew. Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like assh*les when it didn’t come true, and I don’t f*ck with that.” The IGOR creator went on to praise Drake in a series of tweets, and said the boos were from an isolated part of the audience, near the stage. He also blamed cancel-culture on the outcry.
