T.I. Presses Man Wearing Gucci

Although Gucci has officially announced their initiative to promote diversity and inclusivity in their company, T.I. is still boycotting them.

In the video below, the Atlanta rapper is seen schooling a young man who is reportedly wearing Gucci. “It’s what’s in you, not what’s on you,” Tip said to the man. “We make that sh*t fly.”

“Look at me, I’m fly as a muthafucka and I ain’t got that shit on,” he continued. “I look better than you as a matter of fact.”

The young man tried to make a point that T.I. used to rock Gucci before the boycott to which the vet responded, “Yeah, they showed me their disrespect and guess what, I can’t do it no more.”

The “Live Your Life” rapper was one of the many Black public figures to publicly denounce the luxury brand after the release of their wool balaclava sweater that closely resembles a person in blackface. “We ALL GOTTA Stop buying, wearing, and supporting this piece of shit company And ALL PIECE OF SHIT COMPANIES UNTIL THEY LEARN TO RESPECT OUR DOLLARS & VALUE OUR BUSINESS!!!! Our culture RUNS THIS SHIT!!!” Tip wrote on Instagram.

Gucci has since issued an apology and launched the their Gucci changemakers global campaign, which will donate $5 million to fund a scholarship program. Not sure if Tip didn’t get the memo, or he just cancelled Gucci forever.

All Racism Matters: Kodak Black Will Continue To Wear Gucci [Video]

While the boycott on Gucci continues Hip-Hop is seeing who is truly down for the cause. Apparently Kodak Black is not.

Last week Gucci played themselves causing many rappers to take a stance against the luxury retailer. T.I. specifically asked the people that they no longer spend money at their stores nor wear their products. Well Yak Lauren doesn’t feel in any way about the Italian brand’s blackface fail.

Nevertheless, Kodak Black has said he will continue to patronize the fashion brand despite a very big backlash. He took to his Instagram to explain his rationale.

“See my little Gucci clothes that I bought? And I’ma wear it… I’m Black, right? And I’m thug to the bone, right? And I f*ck with white people, right? But sometimes Black people do be reaching for like no reason. Just be reaching,” he theorized. “Them people ain’t do nothing—them people ain’t say nothing bout no racist sh*t. Them people just had a little ski mask—there’s all kinds of ski masks in the world.”

Since the public outcry, Gucci has pulled the item. CEO Marco Bizzarri has released an internal memo to his global staff. “We made a mistake. A big one. Because of cultural ignorance, but ignorance is not an excuse. And we accept responsibility for this mistake. Yet there is no way of thinking nor believing that this could have ever been intentional.”

Dapper Dan, who has a partnership with Gucci, stated via his Instagram he is having Marco Bizzarri fly into Harlem this week to personally discuss the matter. A cultural awareness program that “will allow diversity to bloom everywhere” is already in motion.

Whether this is a confirmation of Kodak officially caping for Gucci or just another example of his at times misinformed logic, the young man needs to do his homework on how much in poor taste this $890.00 high turtleneck with thick, red lips around the mouth cut-out really was. Floyd Mayweather also has some learning to do.

Floyd Mayweather Goes On Gucci Shopping Spree, Stunts On Boycott Efforts

Floyd Mayweather has never been one to strike a social justice stance, but few would have expected him to defy a growing notion that Gucci isn’t down with Black people. After the fashion brand’s blackface snafu, Money Mayweather gleefully stunted on the boycott by going on a Gucci shopping spree.

TMZ Sports reports:

The boxer — along with his entire TMT crew — rolled into Gucci in Bev Hills … and when we told him about all of the stars calling for a Gucci ban over a sweatshirt that resembled blackface, Floyd scoffed.

“I’m not no follower, I do what the f*ck I wanna do,” Floyd told us.

When we told Floyd that stars like T.I. and Spike Lee would be upset with him, Floyd laughed.

“You said they’re gonna be upset with me? I love it, I love it, I love it. See, the thing is this, I live for myself. I do what I want to do.”

Outside the store, Floyd and his crew showed off a BUNCH of bags filled with Gucci — dropping a fortune on clothing and accessories.

“I’m not a follower,” Floyd added … “You know when everybody else they say, ‘Everybody gonna boycott?’ I say guess what, this boy gonna get on a yacht and live life.”

Mayweather defiantly said that he doesn’t see a need to stop shopping at high-end retailers even if they’ve posted offensive material, doing so while evoking the “Black Lives Matter” slogan.

Jermaine Dupri Thinks Boycotting Super Bowl Halftime Show Is Missed Opportunity

With the recent news that Rihanna turned down performing at next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, and leaving what was sure to be a major bag on the table, Jermaine Dupri thinks doing so is a missed opportunity. With the big game happening in the producer’s home base of Atlanta, Dupri thinks that artists could use the platform to elevate their concerns on a global stage.

TMZ Sports reports:

Rihanna reportedly turned down the halftime show this year and Hov told the NFL to kick rocks last year, all because both artists have MAJOR issues with the league’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

The Super Bowl is in ATL this year … Dupri’s stomping grounds … and he tells TMZ Sports he thinks the platform of the Super Bowl is more valuable than a boycott.

“Boycotts and marches don’t seem like they work to me, I’m sorry. I think they should send a message while they’re onstage, take advantage of your platform.”

Dupri says it’s totally cool NOT to do the Super Bowl in protest as well, but makes it clear that further conversation does more good than ignoring it.

Dupri thinks that in the end, people don’t care about boycotts and all but ignore them. There will surely be millions of people watching the halftime show despite their feelings about the NFL just the same, so perhaps he feels that’s the perfect time to drop the message.

JD has to know that the NFL isn’t about to let that happen on their watch, though.
