Rest In Power: John Witherspoon’s Cause Of Death Revealed

One of the greatest comedic minds of our generation is no longer but his fans will start to get more closure. The cause of John Witherspoon’s death has been revealed.

As per Page Six his death certificate has been officially released and it confirms that he passed due to complications from of the heart. The paperwork, obtained by TMZ, drills down the specifics to myocordial infarction, coronary artery disease and obesity. It also states that he suffered from hypertension. On October 29 the actor suffered a heart attack while at his home in Sherman Oaks, California.

His family released a formal statement saying “He was a Legend in the entertainment industry, and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you ‘POPS’ always & forever.” The Detroit, Michigan actor was known for his iconic roles in projects such as FridayBoomerang, and The Boondocks. He is survived by his wife and his two sons. BET Drops Teaser For ‘Boomerang’ TV Produced By Lena Waithe & Halle Berry During Golden Globes

In between watching Green Book win too many awards during last night’s Golden Globes, BET gave us a glimpse of what its upcoming Lena Waithe (The Chi, Master of None) and Halle Berry produced Boomerang TV show is going to look like.

When news first dropped back in April that BET was going to be resurrecting the classic romantic comedy that starred Eddie Murphy and Halle Berry it wasn’t well received initially, but this first look has changed some minds. In the teaser for the show which is being billed as a direct sequel or continuation, we meet the new cast who are the children of the original players from the film.

The show will pick up 25 years after the film and will stick to its romantic comedy roots and will follow the young professionals as they try to balance work, friendship, and their love lives. While we still have to wait for a teaser which we are sure is on its way, BET shared a BTS video giving us a glimpse into Lena Waithe and showrunner Ben Cory Jones (HBO’s Insecure) making the show a reality.

Boomerang premieres on BET Feb. 12 and stars Tequan Richmond, Tetona Jackson, Leland Martin, and Lala Milan. We are interested to see what the trio Waite, Berry & Jones cook up with this show.

BET Starts Filming Television Series Sequel To ‘Boomerang’

One of the most beloved movies from the 1990’s is being brought back to life. BET has confirmed they are working on a sequel to Boomerang.

According to a report by The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionBlack Entertainment Television has started shooting a television series that follows up on the iconic romantic comedy. In a statement to Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Lena Waithe frames the effort as an extension of the original.

“This is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story,” Waithe explained. “There’s no point in trying to remake a classic. It can’t be done. So, we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we’ve created!”

Oscar winner Halle Berry will also join as an executive producer. “I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trailblazer in her own right. I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen,” Berry said via a press statement.

The plot will find Jacqueline Boyer’s (Robin Givens) son and Marcus (Eddie Murphy) and Angela Graham’s (Halle Berry) daughter as they work to make their own name in the advertising industry. This follow-up will come in the form of 10 episodes, each will be 30 minutes each. The series is currently being filmed in Atlanta is rumored to premiere in 2019.

Originally released in 1992, Boomerang featured an all-star which included Halle Berry, Robin Givens, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, David Alan Grier, John Witherspoon and Chris Rock. The film grossed over $70 million dollars and produced one of the most successful soundtracks which included the number one hit “End Of The Road” by Boyz II Men.

Lena Waithe & Halle Berry To Executive Produce Forthcoming ‘Boomerang’ Series

It’s lit. Halle Berry and Lena Waithe are reportedly teaming up as executive producers to bring us a small screen continuation of Boomerang.

Based on the 1992 film that starred Berry, Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, Martin Lawrence, and a slew of other high-profile actors, the 10-episode television series will follow the lives of Jacqueline’s son and Marcus’ daughter, as they try to step out of their parents’ shadow. Berry is excited about the new venture. In the press release, she showed Waithe nothing but love, commenting “I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right. I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.”

Meanwhile, Waithe paid homage to the original. “This is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story,” she clarified. “There’s no point in trying to remake a classic.
