This 72-Year Old Grandfather Goes Viral Making Trap Beats

Kanye West once said, “Lock yourself in a room, Doin’ five beats a day for three summers That’s a different world like Cree Summers.  I deserve to do these numbers.”

There’s a chance Arthur Dubois was listening because the 72-year old grandfather taught himself to produce music. Not to mention, he is making the type of beats his teenage grandchildren may appreciate.

Dubois’ musical genius came alive six years ago at the age of 66 when he began making Hip-Hop beats as a hobby.

In an organic nature, the Chicago native figured out how to create the pulse of Hip-Hop through trial and error.  “I was tampering with it but I wasn’t doing too well and stuck at it,” Dubois told BuzzFeed News.

Surprisingly the elderly man took a liking the speaker knocking sounds of trap music. “They didn’t have it in my day. While his musical palate may be more diverse than those of his generation, he says it “sound[ed] good.”

This past Monday Dubois felt his music sounded good enough considering he took his music to a local studio to get a professional opinion.

He visited Haven Studios, a youth mentoring music studio in the south side of Chicago. There, he met 32-year-old rapper and producer named Andre “Add-2” Daniels, who also owns the studio. He asked Daniels to take a listen to his track.

At first, Daniels was rather hesitant and maintained the studio was for the youth. However, he agreed to listen. To his surprise, “When I heard his music I was in complete disbelief because you wouldn’t expect him to make this style of music, to be able to do it well, and to appreciate it as music, where sometimes our elders don’t see it as music,” said Daniels.

The 72-year old was astonished at the reception of his music. Daniels shared clips of the track on Twitter and was equally astonished.
