Cops In Arizona Collar “PENIS MAN” Graffiti Artist In SWAT Raid

Arizona Police reportedly nabbed the graffiti artist known as “PENIS MAN” last weekend after a SWAT team raid jammed him up in Phoenix.

Tempe Police say that 38 year old Dustin Shomer is the man behind the lewd nom de plume, responsible for bombing municipal buildings, the Arizona State dorms and the famous “A” above the campus.

Last weekend, Shomer was charged with 16 counts of aggravated criminal damage, 8 counts of criminal damage and 1 count of criminal trespassing stemming from activity that allegedly began in November.

25 bulletproof-clad SWAT officers raided Shomer’s Tempe apartment. He has reportedly told authorities that he is not the original “PENIS MAN” and he’s only one of several copycats of the infamous artist.

[WATCH] Yasiin Bey Formerly Known As Mos Def Releases New Album In Most Unique Way

Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, sat down with MSNBC’s Ari Melber to discuss his newest studio recording of yasiin bey: Negus, which is only offered offline. The Brooklyn rapper decided to create a fine art experience fused with hip hop curated at The Brooklyn Museum—not Spotify, Apple or any other streaming platform.

Negus, the exhibition acknowledges the importance of hip-hop as a fundamental American art form by making the 8-track, 28-minute recording available without the distractions of technology (upon entering the gallery, visitors are given a case in which to lock their mobile devices). In addition to Negus, the exhibition includes artworks by Ala Ebtekar, Julie Mehretu, and José Parlá created in collaboration with bey, as well as original music by celebrated pianist by Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou.

Negus (pronounced nuh-goose) takes its name from the word for “king” or “ruler” in Ge` ez, one of the ancient Semitic languages of Ethiopia. bey associates the term with Prince Alämayyähu Tewodros and others who have led noble lives, including Henrietta Lacks and Nipsey Hussle.

Bey reveals, “My proposal is that art is not just a fine art, it’s not limited or restricted solely to what you can hang on the wall, it includes music as well.  I had a strong feeling it needed to be a more dynamic experience than downloading it from an advice…”

The Abstract! Q-Tip Will Be at Bonhams New York Showcasing His Personal Art Collection

Q-Tip has always been known as “The Abstract” of his rap collective we all know and love as A Tribe Called Quest, and now he’s proving exactly why by curating a special art exhibition at legendary auction house Bonhams New York.

Kamaal has been collecting artwork from the likes of Nina Chanel Abney (seen above), Harmony Korine, William Villalongo and Fred Brathwaite, the latter who the Hip-Hop masses may know better as Fab 5 Freddy. Select pieces that will be featured in the show include modern works spanning from 2013 to 2018, one in particular being Richard Prince’s “Untitled” from 2015 that ATCQ used three years ago as the album cover for their final album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service.

Here’s what Tip had to say to Bonhams exclusively about his upcoming art show:

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to showcase and recognize some of the most talented artists that have inspired me personally and professionally. This would not have been possible were it not for Bonhams’ generosity and commitment in sharing my collection to the public. My hope is that this exhibition will encourage visitors to learn something new, be inspired, and discover the brilliance of some of these incredible emerging artists.”

Q-Tip, The Abstract

The show will run for two weeks starting on September 20 and ending on October 4. Also, the exhibition is free of charge and open to the public.

For more information, and to preview the pieces featured in ‘Q-Tip: The Collection,’ head over to Bonhams to learn more.

All Falls Down: Kanye West’s “Dome Homes” Demolished Due to Noise Complaints & Permit Violations

When news broke last month that Kanye West was building dome-like concept homes in his Calabasas neighborhood, the idea seemed pretty neat and innovative overall at the time. However, it now looks like the whole thing was ill-fated from the beginning and has since been demolished for the most part by the City of Los Angeles.

TMZ, who also broke the original story, now reports that noise complaints from neighbors and the “minor” fact that ‘Ye never got the proper permits to start building in the first place led to the downfall of his otherwise genius idea. As of now, only one tower is still standing, as seen above in the video report by CBS LA, and even that one will have to be torn down before the September 15 deadline put in place by the L.A. County Department of Public Works.

In addition to regulation violations, Kanye and crew were reportedly doing construction for more than 12 hours on Saturdays — it’s against the area’s 8AM – 5PM building policy — and even working on Sundays, which isn’t allowed at all. Hey, maybe the new Wyoming property he just bought will be the new home for his dome community.

Do you think Kanye West is getting unfair treatment for a plan that could change the community, or did he bring this on himself for not following the proper procedure? Let us know your thoughts over on Facebook and Twitter!

Kanye West Is Now Making “Dome Homes” in Calabasas

Kanye West is always forward-thinking in his approach to things, whether it’s dealing with the future of fashion or less-than-wanted opinions about the future of American politics. However, his latest futuristic venture is actually pretty dope; Ye is now developing dome concept houses that he’s hoping will lead us into a more unified society.

TMZ gave a first look at the unique housing structures, which were designed to actually “break the barriers that separate classes” that we as a society created with upper, middle and lower class terminology. The units are currently being constructed in his Calabasas, California neighborhood, and are said to be inspired by Luke Skywalker’s childhood home on Tatooine from the classic Star Wars universe. Dimensions for the homes are measured out at 50 feet tall and sit on an estimated 300-acre land plot. Kanye even went the extra mile by assigning his team to research the history of housing to make sure this project is as cutting-edge as it looks. Hey…”Dome Homes” sound pretty dope to us!

We’ll keep you updated as more info on these dome concept houses by Kanye West come to further fruition. Let us know if you’d live in one of these by sounding off on our Facebook and Twitter!

Mary J. Blige To Star in ‘Power’ Spinoff Series

The Power spinoff is about to be big with the announcement of the legendary Mary J. Blige set to star in the new show.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, series creator and co-showrunner Courtney A. Kemp announced that the “first of several” prequel series will be titled Power Book 2: Ghost, and will feature the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.

Blige surprised everybody by coming on stage alongside Kemp and 50. This is probably the most exciting thing that’s going to happen to me this year,” she said. “I’ve been a fan of ‘Power’ since the very beginning and I want to thank Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent for starting this conversation with me.”

While we all have come to love Mary J. Blige as the Queen of “Hip-Hop Soul”, her acting career had taken off. Blige was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Mudbound.

The sixth and final season of “Power,” “The Final Betrayal,” premieres Sunday, Aug. 25. The series, which stars Omari Hardwick, Naturi Naughton, Joseph Sikora, and Rotimi, is Starz’ most-watched and highest-rated show with an average of 10 million viewers per episode.

Tupac Toys! Check Out This Mini 2Pac Sculpture By Artist Rebecca Maria

This year marks 23 years since we lost Hip-Hop icon Tupac Shakur, but his memory is far from being forgotten. Whether it’s through items from his time in prison going to auction, particularly his I.D. card and love letter to Madonna, or clothing collabs featuring rare pics of the MC, everyone seems to want a piece of Pac. Now, artist Rebecca Maria is allowing you to own your own mini 2Pac figure with her latest work of Hip-Hop-influenced art.

The new “002 Sculpture” is the latest in her line of rap collectables, which has in the past included archival prints of Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Pimp C and others, in addition to another rap figurine in the form of Diplomatic Immunity-era Juelz Santana. The Pac sculpture is a rendition of his classic leather vest/baggy jeans/black bandana ‘fit from the January 1996 cover of The New York Times Magazine. It stands 8-inches tall and comes with action-packed accessories, including two Jesus pieces.

The “002 Scupture” of Tupac Shakur by Rebecca Maria can be purchased right now for $230 USD in her web store. Only 20 will be made, so cop now if your “California Love” is just as strong as your love for art.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sues Iconix For ‘Massive Fraud’

The New York Post’s Page Six has reported that Hip-Hop billionaire Jay-Z and his company Roc Nation are suing a city licensing firm, alleging it of bilking investors in a “massive years-long fraud,” according to a new lawsuit. Roc Nation first sold the men’s clothing brand Rocawear to Iconix for $204 million in 2007.

According to court documents in the Manhattan Supreme Court, the suit says that the Iconix Brand Group Inc., duped it and other companies — including Ecko, Ed Hardy and PONY — into doing business by not being honest about its financials, and then made off with their money without delivering the services that the company promised.

The feds have been investigating Iconix, which court documents reveal have “amass[ed] a portfolio of trademarks under false pretenses,” and detailed that they committed fraud by having “absconded with its licensees’ money without providing the branding and retail support it promised.” Roc Nation had been doing business with the firm after selling men’s clothing brand Rocawear to them for $204 million back in 2007. Though the company’s stocks were strong through 2015, the suit points out that, today, they are worth “less than a dollar per share.”

Iconix then “absconded with its licensees’ money without providing the branding and retail support it promised,” the court documents allege.

“Plaintiffs never would have entangled their business interests with Iconix had it disclosed the true condition of its business or the massive accounting fraud in which it was engaged,” the court documents claim.

The representation for Roc Nation is requesting that Iconix should pay for the all legal costs accrued when Jay-Z had to testify after the SEC subpoenaed him and for other unspecified damages.

We’ll have more on the story as it develops.

T.I.’s Trap Museum Hosted the ‘Lil Trap House’ at the BET Experience Featuring a Special Nipsey Hussle Tribute

This year’s BET Awards Show was capped by a tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle featuring YG, DJ Khaled, Marsha Ambrosius and more. The memories of the Victory Lap legend were also at the BET Experience with the Lil Trap House pop up, which included a special tribute to Hussle and was stationed at the LA Convention Center.

The pop-up was a collaboration between T.I.’s Trap Music Museum and BET that allowed for two days of viewing, attracting thousands of visitors. The Nipsey Hussle tribute is the initial phase of a new exhibit to honor the Crenshaw superstar.

The Lil Trap House pop up was visited by Karen Civil who donated items to the Nipsey Hussle/YG  “West Coast” exhibit.

“Our exhibit attracted thousands of people!!  They loved our creative and enjoyed our Live Life headphones experience,” states Krystal Garner General Manager Trap Music Museum.  “We are excited for the rest of ‘Lil Tiny House’ tour.”

Additional love in the Lil Trap House Pop Up was shown to Pusha T with the Interactive Barcode, The infamous Grandma’s Living Room, the remake of Future’s Dirty Sprite 2 cover in 3D, Gucci Mane‘s Lil Trap Kitchen, Young Thug’s “Snake” Exhibit and Migos city “The Nawf” – a scaled down model of their neighborhood.
