Travis Scott‘s opinion on issues of race have been questionable over the years. But, where women’s rights are concerned, the rapper seems to be placing himself on the right side of an issue that’s upending the country: anti-abortion legislation.

After performing at the 2019 Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama — one of several states that passed these new, restrictive laws — the 28-year-old father to Stormi Webster announced he would be donating merch profits from that day to Planned Parenthood.

“I wanna donate my net profits from my merch today to Planned Parenthood,” Travis said on stage. “We feel for those in Alabama. I love you all. I just want everyone to know that love is the strongest thing that we can have… so to anyone out there — man, woman — I wanna dedicate this song to you guys.”

He went on to perform “Love Galore,” his 2017 collaborative hit with SZA. See a clip below.

Travis Scott Vows to Donate Proceeds of Merch Sales to Planned Parenthood

In wake of the new anti-abortion laws, Travis Scott has pledged to donate profits from his merchandise sales to Planned Parenthood.

If you’re unfamiliar with PP, it is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive health care to women, including abortions.

La Flame made the announcement during his set at the 2019 Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. on Friday. “I wanna donate my net profits from my merch today to Planned Parenthood,” he told the attendees.

He added, “We feel for those in Alabama. I love you all. I just want everyone to know that love is the strongest thing that we can have…So to anyone out there; man, woman. I wanna dedicate this song to you.” He then went on to sing his SZA collaboration, “Love Galore.”

Abortions have been a hot topic since last week when a new bill was signed criminalizing abortions even in the case of rape and incest. Doctors who are caught performing abortions can face 99 years in jail.

The Hip Hop community have been sounding off about the bill. Sad we living in a era where laws don’t really help the everyday American. I swa ladies I’m praying for y’all. #ProtectOurWomen But #KeepYallLegsClosed,” Waka Flocka wrote on Twitter. “We should pass a bill that rapist get the death penalty.”

Rihanna, Diddy, Waka Flocka Flame & More React to Alabama’s Anti-Abortion Bill

The Hip Hop community spoke out on Alabama’s anti-abortion bill.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed HB 314 into law two days ago, and it was described as the most extreme anti-abortion law in the country. Under the law, abortions are criminalized even in the case of rape and incest. If a doctor is even caught performing an abortion procedure they can get charged up to 99 years. That’s more time someone gets for rape.

The only exceptions to the law are in cases when the unborn child is a dire health risk for the mother, ectopic pregnancies and if the “unborn child has a lethal anomaly.” This law is more strict than Georgia’s recent law that banned abortion after hearing a heartbeat.

As soon as news broke, people began sounding off on social media. Rappers like Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flocka Flame, and J.I.D., showed up for women once they caught wind of the tragic news. Diddy and Rihanna also gave their two cents.

“I think abortion is the decision of the mother,” Lupe wrote in an Instagram post last night (May 16). “I think to value the quantity of life over the quality of life is misguided. I think the state should play a role but should remain neutral. I think if your not going to take care of a child then you should not have one but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to kill it. I think you should use contraception at all times unless you are planning to have a child. I think rapists should summarily be put to death.”

“Sad we living in a era where laws don’t really help the everyday American. I swa ladies I’m praying for y’all. #ProtectOurWomen But #KeepYallLegsClosed,” Waka Flocka wrote on Twitter last night (May 16). “We should pass a bill that rapist get the death penalty.”
