On Independence Day in 1986, Daryl McDaniels, his partner in rhyme Joseph Simmons and their DJ Jason Mizell, who are best known as the legendary Hip Hop group Run-D.M.C., released one of the most successful singles of their career; “Walk This Way”, which guest stars rock n’ roll vets Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.

The rap version of the single, which appeared on Run-D.M.C.’s third album Raising Hell, was a very groundbreaking track that helped pioneer the fusion of rock n’ roll and Hip Hop. The original song of the same name appeared on Aerosmith’s 1975 Toys In The Attic album.

Run-DMC Pumps New Life into Aerosmith’s GRAMMY Performance with Classic Rendition of “Walk This Way”

RUN DMC (without Jam Master Jay) took to the GRAMMYs stage and murked a performance with the classic rock band, Aerosmith.

Amidst all of the recent conversations about The GRAMMYs not being warm to Black music, the four-time award winners Aerosmith has been checking for RUN DMC. They check for them back in the day and brought them to life to a mainstream audience… and now… the legendary rap group has returned the favor by bringing new life to the age-group’s performance.

Let’s keep it all the way funky.

They kept it fly by bringing energy. The highlight was seeing DMC super fit and moving all over the stage, captivating the crowd as he did back in the day when the song was originally dropped.

Peep how even Steven Tyler looked smashed with a snapback on doing the two-step from the video. #SwagdidnotcomebeforeRUNDMCtookthestage

At the end… DMC rocked the blinged-out JMJ buckle on his belt and their DJ posted up the Kobe Bryant jersey!

What a show…
