Lil Yachty Reveals He Secured ‘7-Figure Check’ for Writing City Girls’ ‘Act Up’

Lil Yachty Reveals He Secured '7-Figure Check' for Writing City Girls' 'Act Up'

Back in the day, ghostwriters used to remain ghosts, but nothing is too taboo in the era of social media. Lil Yachty spilled the tea that he wrote City Girls’ “Act Up” and it was a shocker for many.

Yachty presumably wrote Yung Miami’s verse because JT has songwriting credit alongside Isaac Bynum.

Instead of praising the rapper for doing the same thing that Pardison Fontaine does for Cardi B, he was trolled about it on Instagram live.

“That was an eight-figure check and it’s still coming—I’m sorry. 7,” Lil Boar said. “Let me talk to whoever that civilian was on the last insert. These niggas be so closed-minded, right? And these niggas ain’t never seen no real money, right?”

“Act Up” was a huge record and was even sampled in Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.” Maybe Lil Yachty wanted recognition for his versatility, but it’s called GHOSTWRITING for a reason.

Yung Miami Reveals JT is Being Released to Halfway House This Month

EBro Darden sat down with Lil Yachty and Yung Miami on his Beats 1 radio show to further promote Quality Control’s Control The Streets, Volume 2 album, which was released a month ago.

Yachty, who wrote the City Girls’ hit single “Act Up” cleared up the air that he’s not the voice of the Miami duo. “It was nothing behind it,” he said. “When I did it, I was just joking around. It was a joke. It wasn’t no secretive…it was a joke! I didn’t think they was gon’ really do it.”

Miami shared that she didn’t like the song when she first heard it, and admits that she’s still not a fan of it.

On the other hand, there have been multiple reports about Caresha’s other half, JT, being released and we finally have a concrete answer.

When discussing when the new City Girls album is coming out, Miami said, “I’m definitely feeling the love and the glow, but I’m ready to have this baby. I’m ready to get back to work. I feel like I’ve been pregnant for a year.”

“We’re gonna save it for 2020 when JT come home,” she said. “When she come home we’ll work on another album that we’re gonna drop probably for Spring Break. She gotta come home. We gotta record.”

Miami revealed that her rap partner would be released to a halfway house this month where she has to adhere to strict rules including a curfew.

Yung Miami Reveals She Hated ‘Act Up’ When It Was Recorded

Yung Miami has been holding it down for her other half, JT, while she completes her prison sentence for credit card fraud.

The pregnant rapper has been promoting and touring as the City Girls solo, but she recently confirmed that JT will be home by the Summer. “I talk to her every day through email,” Yung Miami, born Caresha Brownlee told Variety. She also revealed that the first thing they have planned is to “get drunk!”

Aside from their Drake feature, one of the duo’s smash hit records is “Act Up” which Brownlee admits she wasn’t a fan of initially. “I hated ‘Act Up,’” she said. “When me and JT made [Girl Code], that was the song I hated. Now that’s one of our biggest songs.”

She also spilled the tea about the difficulties of working with her significant other, Southside, who has produced for the likes of Future, Gucci Mane, and Waka Flocka Flame. “One time, I tried to get into the studio. He was so hard on me! He was like, ‘Say this part again, do this part!’ I just was like ‘You know what? I can’t do it,’” she said. “If I want to go in the studio, he’ll give me whatever I want — but I’d just rather not work with him because he’ll go hard on me. I think that’s what I need, but it’s just like, ‘Send me the beat, I’ll do my part and get it back to you.’”

Further in the conversation, she explained how she coined the popular phrase “flewed out.” “I was drunk one day trying to do a drop for show. I ended up saying ‘flewed out’ and it ended up going viral. Now it’s in the urban dictionary!”

Cardi B Defends Female Rappers Using Ghostwriters Amid ‘Act Up’ Controversy

There’s a surge of female rappers rising from different parts of the world, and some controversy has emerged with it including ghostwriting.

Ghostwriting has always been shamed in Hip Hop, with the exception of female rappers, but it is normalized in the millennial Hip Hop game. Ghostwriters became a hot debate after Lil Yachty revealed that he was the main writer for City Girls’ smash hit, “Act Up.”

The duo doubled down on the claims and featured their label mate in the music video where he flexes his songwriting and cadence set up for Yung Miami to recite.

Despite the single’s success, there are still some people who want to deduct points because it wasn’t fully written by the Miami rap duo. A few leading ladies of the female Hip Hop circle took their stance including Caresha herself. She was prompted to sound off after an Instagram user boasted that JT is the rap talent keeping the City Girls afloat. “And you still know my sh** word for word NEXT,” she clapped back.

Cardi B had her follow up and defended Yung Miami’s claims. “I bet you rap that whole f**king song with your whole motherf**king heart, b**ch!” Cardi said. “I bet you use they accent though! You not using Lil Yachty accent, you using they accent! The f**k! Y’all be singing that song with y’all whole f**king chest. Y’all b**ches be hating.”

Other femcees chimed in like Asian Da Brat and Megan Thee Stallion who have both made it clear that they pen their own rhymes.

Lil Yachty Reveals he Wrote Yung Miami’s Verses in City Girls’ ‘Act Up’

Lil Yachty pretty much claimed to write the City Girls’ smash hit, “Act Up” in its entirety.

In an interview with Kerwin Frost the Teenage Emotions rapper set the record straight about how much he contributed to the song because people assumed he was credited with only a couple lines. According to this interview, the only part he didn’t write was JT’s last verse. This could be true because JT does have writing credits on the song alongside her label mate and Isaac Earl Bynum.

“He may have said like one thing in the studio and they credit him,” Yachty said. “I wrote the whole song except for JT’s last verse. But everything that everyone is singing and all. I wrote the whole thing.”

“I just thought like them. I know them personally,” he said. “I know what women like to hear…what’s just some raunchy shit?”

Fans were blown away by Lil Yachy’s ability to write such a women-centered raunchy hit.
