Sending a 21-gun soldier salute Rest In Peace one of Hip Hop’s favorite crooners.

Many tried, but nobody put R&B into Hip Hop the way it was supposed to sound better than the late, great Nate Dogg of the legendary Dogg Pound. The Source Magazine would like to send him a posthumous shout in recognition of his contributions to the game.

Besides his obvious links to Snoop Dogg and the original Death Row Family, Nathaniel Hale, born on this date in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 1969, Nate appeared alongside several iconic artists in the game, including 2Pac, 50 Cent, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Jay-Z. The world lost a talented singer, actor and musician when Nate succumbed to multiple strokes on March 15, 2011. He was 41 years old.

Condolences go out to Warren G, Dr. Dre, Snoop, and the entire 213 on the day an entire community lost a Hip Hop legend.

Since its conception by Dr. Dre with The Chronic, G-Funk has become one of Hip Hop’s most unique and distinguished sub-genre and has spread West Coast culture across the globe. On this day in Hip Hop history, we celebrate the birth of the self-proclaimed King of G-Funk Nate Dogg.

Known for his smooth, soulful vocals on the hooks of some of the ’90s most popular G-Funk cuts, Nate Dogg became one of the most recognizable voices of the genre. His music career began in 1990 when he and his cousin, Snoop Dogg, formed the group 213 along with fellow Long Beach rapper Warren G. After gaining clout in the newly exploding California rap scene; the group recorded their first demo at the iconic V.I.P. Record Store in Long Beach. The demo was passed along to Dr. Dre, giving Nate Dogg and the rest of 213 a break they needed.

Nate Dogg’s first placement was on Dr. Dre’s classic debut, The Chronic, singing the outro to “Deeez Nuuuts.” He would sign with Death Row Records following the praise and acclaim he received after the album’s release. With Death Row, Nate Dogg continued to sing hooks and harmonize over tracks for various artists on the label. in 1994, he and Warren G released their first hit single, “Regulate.”

Warren G Turns Up The Bass To Show He’s Still Regulating 25 Years Later

Twenty-five years ago this month, Warren G unleashed an album that had a hand in saving Def Jam Records through a commercial drought season. The Long Beach, California MC/producer/DJ may have been wrongfully overlooked at Death Row Records, but the “G” in G-Child may have stood for “Golden” at Russell Simmons’ New York City-based imprint, especially with the late Chris Lighty in his corner. Regulate… G Funk Era made a star out of the soft-spoken band-mate of Snoop and Nate Dogg. “Regulate” was a dominant “Regulate” anthem throughout ’94, a collaborate with Nate. First on Tha Row’s Above The Rim soundtrack, later on his own LP, Dr. Dre’s younger step-brother showed that he had what it takes to be a crossover star, without compromising his LBC roots. A Lost Track Featuring Snoop & Dr. Dre Helped Launch Warren G’s G-Funk Era (Audio) As far of his “Bass & Bars” series, bassist Brady Watt gets Warren to breakout his double-platinum hit which nearly topped the charts. Although the original song was laid back, Warren tones it down even further with Watt’s beat-creation. What’s more, years after Nate’s passing, Brady pays tribute to the song’s other vocal half with his fingers on the strings. Catch other memorable “Bass & Bars” episodes starring B-Real, Pharoahe Monch, MC Eiht, and Murs. Watt is also a member of DJ Premier’s Badder Band. Hear How Warren G Saved Def Jam Records (Audio) #BonusBeat: Catch Brady Watt’s latest single, “BRXKEN,” featuring Teflon Sega:
