Rihanna, Cardi B Call Out Trump After Mass Shootings

Rihanna and Cardi B are taking on Trump.

The music superstars took to social media on Sunday (Aug. 4) to call out the President after two mass shootings left at least 29 dead and 53 injured over the course of just 13 hours.

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, leaving 20 dead and 26 injured. Less than a day later, nine people were killed and at least 27 were injured at a popular bar in downtown Dayton, Ohio.

The El Paso shooting is being investigated as a possible hate crime after the discovery of a racist, anti-immigrant manifesto posted online by the alleged killer, a 21-year-old white man from Allen, Texas.

Following the deadly attacks, several celebrities including Rihanna have spoken out. In a message to her 166 million followers across Twitter and Instagram, the singer condemned Trump for not doing more to combat terrorism in the United States.

“Um… Donald, you spelt ‘terrorism’ wrong! Your country had 2 terrorist attacks back to back hours apart leaving almost 30 innocent people dead,” she began. “This, just days after yet another terrorist attack in California, where a terrorist was able to LEGALLY purchase an assault rifle (AK-47) in Vegas, then drive hours to a food festival in Cali leaving 6 more people dead including a young infant baby boy!”

She continued, “Imagine a world where it’s easier to get an AK-47 than a VISA! Imagine a world where they build a wall to keep terrorists IN AMERICA!!!”

She also shared her condolences for the victims of the senseless violence. “My prayers and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims from Texas, California, and Ohio! I’m so sorry for your loss! Nobody deserves to die like this! NOBODY!” she said.

Cardi B also weighed in on Twitter, accusing the President of inciting “racist” rhetoric, which has led to increased violence in the country. “We have enough information already! Both of the shooters are white supremacist terrorist with intentions to kill minority’s,” she wrote in response to Trump’s tweet. “Law enforcement took rapid action but what are YOU going to do to control some of your RACIST SUPPORTERS?”

When someone told her that she should stay in her lane, Cardi clapped back. “This is not beyond my scoop this is my country and I’m tired!” she wrote. “I get it you are a conservative you and you can support who you want but you can’t ignore the slowly but surely racial war that going on in this country that are the reasons of these tragedy.”

Cardi has been active with getting young voters engaged in politics ahead of the 2020 presidential election. She recently sat down with Senator Bernie Sanders to discuss canceling student debt, climate change, and raising minimum wage.

Following this weekend’s mass shootings, John Legend also took Trump to task for inciting hatred. “When we condemn the racist venom coming from the President’s mouth and point out the bigotry of his policies, it’s not an academic question, it’s not a political game, it’s about life and death,” tweeted the Grammy-winning singer. “The President regularly inspires killers. He is a part of the problem.”

According to the non-profit Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 250 mass shootings this year in the United States. Earlier this week, two people were shot and killed at a Walmart in Southaven, Mississippi, and three people were killed by gunfire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California.
