Q&A With Ekko MC

We are extremely excited to have featured your latest single “Where the Doh Be”, being an artist we never of heard before this, please tell us who is Ekko MC? Where are you from? How did your Hip Hop brand come about?

Hey watup, I always played drums, then got into beat making when I was about 16 because me and my mates at school used to freestyle every day, and back then hiphop was a very small scene in Australia, it was almost non existent except a few criminals rapping over a case of beer and a bong, haha but yeah we were all very influenced by movies like “Colors”, And “New Jack City” also me and my boys always listened to Geto Boys, Public Enemy, Too Short, Ice T, X-Clan, Kool G raps, Ice Cube, TMT, ATL, Snoop, Do or Die and all that good old shit we emulated in real life.. a lot of us were in and out of jail because of it… (funny not funny) 😀

But a couple of my mates and I took it seriously so we started our own rap group and started doing gigs around Sydney age 17-18 then continued and most of us grew out of it but not me.  And here I am.

ROLLING LOUD!!! Seems to be the one Festival all artists want to be a part of!! Any plans on getting on a festival on that scale? Are you touring this 2019 year?

Yeah I would absolutely love to play at rolling loud or any festivals in the near future, it’s tough cod I don’t have a manager or booking agent so Big gigs are few and far between at the moment.

Let us know about the creative process behind your new single “Where the Doh Be”?

I made a dope beat about a year ago, In LA where I live, then I wrote a verse to it and sent it to my mate CQ in Australia because I knew he would be able to spit something nice over it. So he did and sent it back to me I made the hook and finished up the track, sent it off to get mastered and then had this amazing banger.

About 6 months later I was home visiting family and we borrowed an old video camera from one of CQs mates and just went around Sydney in our old stomping grounds and got footage, took turns filming until we had a good amount then I brought he footage back to LA and got my mate Steele Pace to edit it into the masterpiece it is.
And people seem to like it so I’m stoked.

When are you planning on dropping another project in 2019?

I plan to drop another project in a couple weeks, I have 3 new songs I’m working on dropping consecutive videos for them also so I have been in the studio a lot lately.

Are there any Hip Hop influences you have in the underground game that is based out of your city?

I have a couple influences from Australia, some young cats from Tasmania Wombat and Chillinit are making some big moves and a young kid Kobie Dee from Sydney.  I dig their style it’s good to see the industry blossom down there finally.
