Cash Money Records Announces Annual Turkey Giveaway

Continuing a 22-year holiday tradition, Cash Money Records will host its annual turkey giveaway in New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, November 20th. Once again, label Co-Founders and brothers Ronald “Slim” Williams and Bryan “Birdman” Williams return to their hometown in order to give back, uplift, and spread hope, spirit, and cheer for the holidays. Full details can be found below.

For the Williams Brothers, charity stands out as a cornerstone of the label’s core mission and values. Given their lifelong commitment to philanthropy, they co-founded 501(c)(3) organization The Johnny and Gladys Williams Foundation—named after their parents. Among many initiatives, the Foundation presents the turkey giveaway, providing families throughout the community with a bountiful Thanksgiving meal every year. As a result of their work, the company remains a paragon in the community.

With the William Brothers on-site, this will be the fifth year that Cash Money hosts the event at New Home Full Gospel Ministries (1605 Carondelet Street; New Orleans, LA 70130) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Walmart generously donates the turkeys, and Rouses provides the sides and fixings. Birdman’s newest innovation Stunna Brand, Inc. comes aboard as a sponsor for the first time. Radio station Q93 kicks out the jams all day, and NOLA Games On Wheels engages families with entertainment and video games.

Back for the fifth time, the turkey giveaway includes full-service health screenings by Ochsner Health Systems. Services span testing for glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure, dental care, eye exams, quick look EKG’s, stroke assessment, and more. Attendees may receive counseling and information on heart healthy diet, kidney disease, pre-natal care, and diabetes as well as smoking cessation programs and healthy recipe books.

Also, for the fifth year, Dr. David Liang [Director, Stanford Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease] and his staff administer Aortic Disease and Marfan Syndrome heart screenings.

“The Turkey Giveaway is something we’ve been doing since the beginning of Cash Money,”

states Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams. “The moment we made it, we knew we had to lift up our hometown. It was always a part of the label’s vision and brand from day one. Over the years, it’s become something the community can rely on and trust. To me, that’s our greatest accomplishment. We’ve received so many blessings, we want to share those with the city we love and call home.”

Birdman continues, “You could take away the success, the money, and everything. It doesn’t matter. What matters most is the people who were with you since day one: your neighborhood, your friends, and your family. We’ve never forgotten how New Orleans put us first. The Turkey Giveaway is a way to say ‘Thank you’ to everybody we love. Out of everything, it’s what we want people to associate Cash Money with. This defines our legacy.”

Cardi B, T.I. & Chance The Rapper Pinged For Netflix’s First-Ever Music Competition Show

Cardi B

New York rapper Cardi B, T.I. and Chance The Rapper are going to help everyone’s Netflix and chill goals in the coming months. The trio are expected to appear in an upcoming music competition show.

According to a new announcement, Cardi, Tip and Chance will be judges for Netflix’s “Rhythm + Flow” series set to launch next year.

Barring any setbacks, the series is expected to premiere before winter 2019.

The 10-episode hourlong multi-city competition series, which had been in development at Netflix for over a year, is set to premiere in fall 2019. Auditions will begin this fall across the country, including the judges’ hometowns of Atlanta, Chicago, and New York. In each audition city, established rappers who hail from that city will serve as guest judges. (Deadline)

A few days ago, Cardi B made headlines after partnering up with sports apparel giant Reebok.

The same week, Reebok’s president came forward and confirmed the company’s decision to work with the “Bodak Yellow” superstar.

“For us, she really is emblematic of what our brand has done well over the years and that is to be bold, provocative and uninhibited,” Matthew O’Toole, Reebok’s president, told WWD. “If we look at some of the things we’ve done with Allen Iverson or being the first to sign musicians, or more recently with Kerby [Jean-Raymond] of Pyer Moss, when we are at our best we are with people who are comfortable living out loud and Cardi fits that.” (Just Jared)

In July, Nas low-key revealed he has a new album on deck.

“It’s another album that I already had been working on before [the one with] Kanye,” he told Martinez. “Since I did this, I gotta do something that goes into another direction a little bit. I’m finishing up the next one.” Nas confirms he’s done work with Swizz Beatz and RZA (“I’m a big Wu-Tang fan”). He also acknowledged the six-year gap between 2012’s Life Is Good and this summer’s Nasir, promising the wait for his next album won’t be as long. “All the time that went by, it’s dope because now I get to do it from another level,” he said. “I get to make music from an older point of view.” (Billboard)

Days prior, the Big Apple native shared a few of his all-time favorite hip-hop records.

“I’ll give you five that just come to my head. ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ by Public Enemy. No-brainer. Eric B. and Rakim, ‘Eric B. for President.’ ‘It Takes Two’ by Rob Bass and Easy Rock. Rest in Peace Easy Rock. ‘Children’s Story’ by Slick Rick. Wait, ‘Mona Lisa,’ Slick Rick. Wait. ‘La Di Da Di.’ Yeah. It’s either ‘Sucker MCs’ by Run-DMC, ‘It’s Like That,’ by Run-DMC, pick any Run-DMC. ‘Peter Piper.’ ‘My Adidas.’ I’ma go with ‘Sucker MCs’ by Run-DMC. That’s one of the most important records. Ever. Ever. Ever. And I could put ‘The Bridge’ in there. MC Shan and Marley Marl. Come on.”

Waka Flocka Announced Him & Wife Tammy Rivera are Planning to Make a Baby Next Year

Just yesterday we reported that Waka Flocka took to Instagram to attempt at squashing his beef with his long-time friend Gucci Mane, as well as any other lingering beef he may have going on with anyone else. Furthermore, Waka was a guest on Raquel Harper’s BET show, Raq Rants, and surprised us all by announcing that he has supposedly “been given up” on rap.

According to Waka, “I’ve did what I came to do. I’ve made pass $30,000,000.”

People want me to be “hard in the paint Waka” but I’m 32-years-old. I’m a grown ass man. I just want to be a good husband. I’m about to make a baby next year.”

Therefore, yes, we can expect a little bun cooking in Tammy’s oven around this time next year if not sooner. You can watch the full Raq Rants interview tonight on BET at 11p EST.

Drake Visits Jason of Beverley Hills to Buy a Few Gifts For Migos

The last time Drake visited Jason of Beverley Hills, he left with a life-sized owl pendant.  Keep in mind this pendant came equipped with more than a kilo of gold, more than 100 carats of Asscher cut diamonds.

Astonishingly, it is larger than Jason’s hand. Without a doubt, Drizzy must’ve dropped a big bag on his gleaming owl. However, there’s never a shortage of funds when you embark on a three month, 54-show tour across the U.S. and Canada with Hip Hop’s leading trio.

In fact, Aubrey and the Three Migos are still running up checks considering five shows remain on the schedule. Still, Drizzy found time to call Jason and have him create a few new gleaming pieces. When you can afford it, and your friends are actively contributing to securing a bag, its only right you pay them respect in diamonds  (ice, ice, ice, ice, ice, ice).

Therefore, Drizzy split the bag to drop more than a few bands on a few diamond gifts for the Migos. We spoke exclusively with Jason the jeweler, CEO of Jason of BH. He provided us with some intimate details on the gifts.

Asking a few curious questions, we learned that each chain is equipped with 1,196 Round and Asscher shape diamonds, approximately 20 carats apiece.  It’s important to note these are all flawless diamonds.

The pavè and prong settings ensure every diamond will dance across the 19′ chain like the late Mike Jack for years to come.

Offset is already flaunting his gift on his Instagram stories. We wish we had generous friends like Drizzy.

Video: Moneybagg Yo feat. J. Cole – ‘Say Na’

Let’s get it. J. Cole teams up with Moneybagg Yo in the video for his RESET standout “Say Na.”

The Memphis rapper brings it home in the three-minute clip. He gives a peek into his flashy lifestyle, making it rain at the laundromat before sitting down for a feast. Cole World also pays his collaborator a visit at the laundromat. Sporting matching plaid jackets, they exchange bars.

“Ni**as look real, but they silicone / Tough titty, got a redbone,” he raps. “And the head strong / Like Biggie said, ‘Boy, you dead wrong.’”

“Say Na” appears on RESET, Moneybagg Yo’s third release of 2018, which also features appearances from Future, Kodak Black, YG, Jeremih, Kevin Gates, and more.

Tyler, the Creator Protégé: 5 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt

Earl Sweatshirt

It’s been a while since Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt has released an album, with the rapper spending a portion of his time off the radar, away from the paparazzi. He has stayed relatively quiet on social media as well, and this summer the former Odd Future member also cancelled several concerts while citing his motives as an ongoing fight with anxiety and depression.

However, Earl got back on stage at the Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life concert. Soon and after that he was featured on Vince Staples’ new album FM! with (basically) his own track  “New earlsweatshirt – Interlude”. Now that he’s returned to the spotlight, here’s 5 Things You (Probably} Didn’t Know About Earl Sweatshirt.

***EDIT (11/13/18): On Thursday, Earl dropped music of his own for the first time since 2016 with a single titled “Nowhere2go” after it was previewed on an Instagram announcement post the night before.***

1. Earl has teased new music.

Last week, the musician whose real name is Thebe Kgositsile posted a mysterious video on Twitter. The 27-second clip, which samples Tommy Davidson as “cream corn” from the movie Black Dynamite, is leading fans to conclude it as a teaser for a new release. Rumors of an upcoming drop have been circulating for months now, as Earl tweeted but quickly deleted “The vibes… SRS COMING SOON THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER !!” back in September.

2. His last album came over three years ago.

In March of 2015, Earl released I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. It fared extremely well with critics, even reaching #12 on the Billboard 200 and selling 30,000 copies in its debut week. Following this, the extended-play Solace was released. However, since then, he has not put out a single album. With that being said, fans are really hoping that Monday’s tweet will lead to a new piece of art!

3. It’s no surprise his lyrical content is so smooth.

Earl Sweatshirt’s father is renowned South African poet Keorapetse Kgositsile, who passed away in January of 2018. Their relationship seemed a bit rocky throughout the years though (he rapped of missing his dad after not seeing him for years on the hit song “Chum”, and Keorapeste said in 2011 that he hadn’t heard his son’s music while also denouncing new hip-hop), but the death still affected Earl greatly. Anyway, great minds and strong creative abilities clearly run in the family. Rest in peace, Mr. Kgositsile.

4. Thebe has tried his hand at acting, too.

Although the rapper hasn’t performed in quite a few years now, he once was active in front of the camera. He was on VICELAND’s Party Legends with Na’kel Smith, BET’s 106 & Park, and the infamous Loiter Squad for a total of twenty episodes. Produced by Adult Swim, it featured him, Tyler, the Creator, Taco Bennett, and others. Earl’s most recent appearance came on Traveling the Stars: Action Bronson and Friends Watch ‘Ancient Aliens’, back in 2016. Whether he’ll return to this field is yet to be determined, but we do know that he knows how to make people laugh.

5. He’s collaborated with some fantastic artists.

Despite being just 24 years old now, Earl Sweatshirt is a veteran within hip-hop and has worked with some of the game’s best rappers. Some of this can be accredited to the fact that he’s been active since 2010, when his career began. The late Mac Miller featured him on “I’m Not Real” as well as two other tracks, and Earl has been on pieces by Ab-Soul, Action Bronson, SpaceGhostPurrp, Thundercat, Vince Staples and obviously those of old OFWGKTA members such as Frank Ocean.

Serena Williams’ “Woman” of The Year ‘GQ’ Cover Penned By Virgil Abloh Stirring Controversy

Serena Williams Woman of the Year

Source: Tim Clayton – Corbis / Getty

Serena Williams can’t seem to catch a break as of late. Instead of celebrating being featured on the cover of GQ’s  Men of The Year issue, Twitter is more focused on designer Virgil Abloh’s use of quotation marks.

GQ decided to shake the table with its annual Men of The Year issue by selecting Serena Williams for one of four covers. She looks absolutely amazing on the cover, but that’s not where the problem lies. The controversy stems from the word men crossed out and replaced by “woman.”

Immediately that raised eyebrows and had folks on Twitter questioning GQ about the decision calling the move disrespectful and wondering how could they allow such a thing to happen? What they glossed over was the fact the cover was handwritten by the chief executive officer of OFF-WHITE, Virgil Abloh who worked with Serena and designed her infamous tutu with the word “Logo”  and Nike sneakers. Those familiar with the brand quickly pointed out that he has a penchant for using quotation marks.

In an interview with 032c, Abloh explained his use of quotations stating to the publication:

“You can use typography and wording to completely change the perception of a thing without changing anything about it. If I take a men’s sweatshirt and write “woman” on its back, that’s art.”

Even though now we have some context some folks still believe that being Serena is constantly facing backlash for situations the decision to write “woman” on the cover was in poor taste. As expected, there are hot takes are being thrown all over Twitter about the cover. Hit the gallery below to see what people are saying about the cover.
