Martin Lawrence Says ‘Bad Boys for Life’ Was Delayed Because ‘the Script Wasn’t Right’

Its been a long time coming, but the third installment of the Bad Boys franchise is finally on the way.

Martin Lawrence did a new interview with GQ and offered the “most concise explanation” for the 17-year delay. “The script wasn’t right,” he said. “And Will, to his credit, refused to do the movie until the script was right. It wouldn’t have been a good movie. We didn’t want that. We wanted to do a sequel where people would go, ‘Oh, man, that’s what I’m talking about. It just gets better.’”

Will Smith is notorious for having heavy creative input in any project that he’s involved in. This is the same reason why director Joe Carnahan eventually decided to part ways with the movie in April of last year.

During the interview, Lawrence spoke about people constantly asking him for an update of the film and offered some great life advice. “People were asking me, and I had no answer for them,” he said. “I was asking myself that question.”

Bad Boys for Life is slated to be released on January 17th, 2020. Are y’all ready?
