Kodak Black Gets Florida Weapons Charges Dismissed

Kodak Black has caught a break in his weapons case.

In November 2019, the “Tunnel Vision” rapper was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Miami. The charges have now been dismissed after Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, worked out a deal with the Florida State Attorney that would allow the rapper to enter court-ordered drug treatment.

“The State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and her team sat down with me and listened to everything I had to say about Kodak,” Cohen told The Blast.

Kodak was facing a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. “At the end of the conversation, they were concerned that he couldn’t get into the court-ordered drug treatment with an open case and a max security prison,” added Cohen. “They agreed that the fair thing to do was to dismiss the case, so he can attend drug treatment and a lower security prison.”

He is currently serving 46 months at USP Big Sandy, a high-security federal prison in Kentucky, for making false statements on federal forms when he purchased firearms at a weapons store. He is set to be released on Aug. 14, 2022.

The 22-year-old MC is also facing two pending federal criminal cases including a 2016 alleged sexual assault in South Carolina, which carries a maximum 30-year sentence. The other involves drugs and weapons that were found in Kodak’s car as he tried to enter Canada from the U.S.

In May, Kodak claimed he was “badly beaten” by seven prison guards at USP Big Sandy. His legal counsel called upon the Justice Department and the FBI to launch a full investigation.
