Diddy Announces His ‘Semi-Retirement’

Can’t stop, won’t stop?

Sean “Love” Combs is taking a break from music. The hip-hop tycoon reveals that he’s in “semi-retirement” while he figures out his place. During a new interview for the cover of Rolling Stone, which he shares with DJ Khaled, the Forbes mogul made the surprising revelation.

“To be honest, I’ve been in semi-retirement,” says Puff, whose last project was 2015’s MMM (Money Making Mitch) mixtape. “If you don’t see my name on all the Top 10 records, that means I’m not making music.”

While he plans to revive MTV’s “Making the Band” in 2020, the Bad Boy boss can’t see investing in another artist unless they’re able to move him like The Notorious B.I.G. or Mary J. Blige.

“I’m contemplating, ‘Is there a role for me in music now?’” he asks. “I just know that for me, I would only be able to sign legends. To be honest, my decisions will be made through God. I’m at another frequency and level of music. It would have to be something that God fully put in my heart, like when I heard Biggie or I heard Mary [J. Blige].”

Diddy also reveals the sound advice he gives his kids, some of whom are following in their dad’s famous footsteps. “I never was in it for the money. It’s all about the hit,” he says. “When [my kids] bring me music, I tell them the truth. It’s all about the hit and only the song survives. Don’t be a sucker out here and make something that’s gonna be around for two years. They won’t remember your name.”

Meanwhile, the 49-year-old continues to run his $740 million empire, which includes cable network Revolt, his Sean John clothing line, and Ciroc vodka.
