XXXTentacion won for Favorite Album – Soul/R&B, after his untimely death in June.
His mom, Cleopatra Bernard, accepted the honor on his behalf. “I’m so nervous you guys,” she said. “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of my son. I would like to thank the AMAs, his fans and to everyone that made this possible.” She concluded, “Thank you guys so much I appreciate it.”
He was also awarded with the award for Best New Artist at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards, which is slate to air next Tuesday.
The rapper was shot and killed in June at 20 years old after three suspects attempted to rob hi of his Louis Vuitton luggage.
XXXTentaction’s passing was felt by many in the music industry, with artists like Diplo, Juicy J and J. Cole expressing their sympathies on social media.
