Remi and Raiza Biza Release Runner featuring Production by Black Milk

Melbourne artist REMI and musical collaborator Sensible J are one of the fastest-rising Hip Hop acts in Australia and are quickly gaining the attention of international tastemakers.

“This is the first body of work we’ve ever done that feels like it’s a diary. It’s pretty much my experience of the last two years in terms of relationship stuff, race stuff, political observations and mental health. I think you can hear that in the album, you can hear that it’s my brain… lyrically”. – Remi

Out on REMI’s imprint, House of Beige, the sixteen-track sophomore LP features the widely loved singles “For Good” featuring Sampa the Great, and “Substance Therapy”, and “Lose Sleep” featuring Jordan Rakei.

As well as performing their own sold-out headline tours and world-class festivals, REMI have also shared the stage with Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, De La Soul, Joey Bada$$ and in December this year were invited to perform Gorillaz tracks with Damon Albarn on each of his Australian Tour shows. REMI’s appeal is as diverse as it is impressive.

“Runner” is a high tempo beat driven out an out hip hop track with dynamic production and hooks throughout, and shows why Black Milk is one of hip hops most respected producers, and why Remi and Raiza Biza are two of the most exciting emcees coming out of the Southern Hemisphere.

G-Shock Teams Up With Sneaker Freaker For The ‘Redback’ Just In Time For Halloween

Following the success of their ‘Nightowl’ project in 2015, G-Shock and Sneaker Freaker have joined forces once again on a collaborative project. Commemorating 35 years of G-Shock watches and 15 years of Sneaker Freaker magazine, the new ‘REDBACK’ DW5700SF-1D watch is laden with subtle conceptual flourishes and personal observation.

In 1983, G-SHOCK was born from Mr Kikuo Ibe’s dream to create an unbreakable watch. Over the next 35 years, relentless innovation has kept the brand at the forefront of time-keeping technology. G-Shock has grown to be a powerhouse in streetwear culture, donning the wrists of some of the world’s most influential personalities and collaborating with some of the greatest brands and designers of our time.

Established in 2002 by Simon ‘Woody’ Wood as a niche magazine catering to the underground community of footwear connoisseurs, Sneaker Freaker is an unlikely global publishing phenomenon that is proudly based in Melbourne, Australia. Known for their irreverent attitude, Sneaker Freaker has an impeccable track record of delivering idiosyncratic collaborations with brands including New Balance, adidas, PUMA and Montana Cans among others.

Turning to their antipodean roots for inspiration, Sneaker Freaker’s G-SHOCK design was inspired by one of Australia’s deadliest arachnids. The redback spider is a notorious and prolific inhabitant of outback shacks and dark suburban nooks. Despite their small stature, the female spider’s deadly neurotoxin can prove fatal to humans.

Sneaker Freaker’s founder, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood is a noted G-SHOCK collector with more than 300 watches in his keep. With product knowledge acquired over more than two decades, his aficionado affinity with the Japanese brand is highly visible in the Redback design.

“I love nerding out on the details and those red-faced ‘20th Tribute Series’ watches are some of my favourite Gs of all time. They still trade hands among collectors for big money! When the Redback concept came together, the ‘Vampire’ display just had to happen, but there were several technical hurdles to overcome. This is a highly personal nod to my love of G-SHOCK, and I’m very grateful they allowed me to use the iconic red display.”  Woody – Sneaker Freaker

The undoubted highlight is the blood-red LCD screen. Known by G-SHOCK collectors as the ‘Vampire’ display, this unique feature has only been used once, back in 2003, as part of G-SHOCK’S 20th anniversary celebrations.

Coated in ‘cool grey’ matte resin, the branding, clasp and keeper are accented in metallic black pops. Debossed with Sneaker Freaker’s logo, the backplate was also dipped in black ion plating. Flipping the two-tone strap from grey to red mimics the spider’s natural livery, while a spindly cobweb was spun around the clasp, adding a subtle thematic touch to the strap.

Launching in Melbourne on the night of Halloween, the limited edition Redback is housed in custom packaging that brings coffin couture to the world of G-SHOCK. Limited tickets are available to the launch event featuring performances from Kwame, Melbourne local Kaiit, HANS DC, YO! Mafia and special guests.

As an added bonus, STANCE was also tapped to contribute their creativity to the project. Known for their ground-breaking approach to sock construction, STANCE supplied a pair of their high-tech Ventron socks to the Redback ensemble.

The Sneaker Freaker x G-SHOCK ‘Redback’ DW5700SF-1D will be released in limited numbers with the custom coffin packaging from on November 1 and then the rest of Australia the following day.

Global G-SHOCK retailers will sell the watch in standard packaging from November 8.

Esoterik Drops New Track ‘Shapeshifter feat. Locksmith & Illmaculate’

Esoterik has just dropped a fresh new cut ‘Shapeshifter’ with help from his musical kin Californian rapper Locksmith and Portland’s very own Illmaculate. Sitting as a standalone single, ‘Shapeshifter’ follows Esoterik’s debut solo EP My Astral Plane from May this year, which yesterday received a 2018 ARIA Award nomination for Best Urban Release; his first nomination as a solo artist.

Esoterik - Shapeshifter (feat. Locksmith & Illmaculate) - Single Art

A flowing blend of palpable hip-hop beats and rhymes streaming through a musical bed of bluesy soul, ‘Shapeshifter’ is about feeling focused and courageous in your creative world, so free and comfortable that you can literally do and be anything. It’s about trusting your gut, and allowing yourself to see life’s opportunities. “Life is sacred” is ‘Shapeshifters’ message, which shines through the lyricism in the track, reaching a crescendo in the chorus.

It’s been one of my life goals to create music with both Locksmith and Illmaculate individually. I consider them to be two of the realest and illest MC’s in the game. To have them both feature on the same track is an absolute blessing. They’ve lifted my message for this track to a new high!” – Esoterik

After coming to prominence in the early 2000’s as a battle MC and one half of Frontline, Locksmith released his debut LP ‘A Thousand Cuts’ via Landmark Entertainment in 2014. His path crossed with Esoterik’s a couple of years ago when he was doing shows in Australia. After connecting via social media, the two met up to collaborate on some music. Locksmith gravitated towards a beat Esoterik had been working on for a while, and the ensuing session is where ‘Shapeshifter’ was born.

Illmaculate (also known as Illmac) is a battle rapper from Portland, Oregon who at age 17 won the 2004 Scribble Jam freestyle rap competition, making him the youngest winner in the competition’s history. After knowing Illmaculate for years through touring in the US, Esoterik finally saw an opportunity to work with him on ‘Shapeshifter’.

Esoterik (aka Eso) has become one of the most distinct voices in the modern Australian hip-hop scene as one-third of powerhouse trio Bliss n Eso. After kicking a decade-long heavy drinking habit while on tour overseas, Esoterik is the culmination of renewed energy, colourful beats and refreshingly blunt lyrics.

Carmouflage Rose Releases Debut EP Taste

Plus Intoxicating Visuals For His New Single ‘Let Me Down’ feat. George Maple

Brisbane based artist Carmouflage Rose released his debut EP TASTE through Sony Music Entertainment Australia on Friday. The lead single ‘Let Me Down’ Feat. George Maple has already received incredible support from media including triple j, who not only added the single straight into rotation but not long after the release, Carmouflage Rose was invited to perform the track with guest vocalist George Maple for a Like A Version, receiving widespread acclaim from their audience.

Today the urban juggernaut releases the music video for his new single ‘Let Me Down’ ft George Maple – his first visual offering since ‘Late Nights’ over a year ago.

“This clip was a fun one to make because it is so visually stimulating, and that’s something I aim for in all my work but don’t always get the opportunity to create. I feel my style as a director translated well to Larrys music, so it was a natural collaboration between us, and one I’m quite proud to see released into the world.” says director Rory Pippan.

To celebrate the release of TASTE, Carmouflage Rose will hit the road with a run of headline dates across Australia and New Zealand during November. Joining Carmouflage Rose on what will be his biggest shows to date is new triple J favourite CXLOE as main support. Carmouflage Rose will play ‘Grass Is Greener Festival, ‘Spilt Milk’ and Castaway Festival.

The tracklisting for TASTE includes Certified ARIA Gold break out hit ‘Late Night’s which has been streamed over 9 million times and received airplay in the UK, as well as follow up single ‘Wildflowers’ which is fast approaching a total of 3 million streams. Additionally, both tracks have received Beats 1 radio support. With such positive feedback on Carmo’s releases to date, it’s no surprise that the new wave hip-hop artist is keen to share more of where that came from.

“TASTE is a glimpse into my world, it’s a journey of my emotions from track one to the end. I wrote a lot of songs for this project but carefully selected the songs that felt more real and original. I loved working with James because we are always trying something new and having fun with the creative process…yes we may bump heads on sounds and drums but it works out in the end cause James can make anything. I also wanted to update the Aussie hip hop scene with some new global vibes and energy and to show the world that I am just getting started…I just wanna take the world into the future with this project”.

Just like his previously released tracks, Carmouflage Rose has teamed up with frequent collaborator James Angus. “Working with Carmouflage Rose is always a great experience because you never know what each session is going to bring. He makes sure I’m always on my toes in the studio which keeps me engaged. Working on the Taste EP was a blessing because we’d already had such a strong working relationship over the last few years and to be able to put forward my own sonic identity and ideas on the project really allowed me to break new barriers as a producer. Don’t get me wrong there were definitely obstacles and tougher times, but these always come with the territory of exploring new ground.

Both of our styles lend to borrowing elements and ideas from all different genres which helped to create what I hope to be a diverse and fun listening experience. One only Carmouflage Rose can bring! I am very excited for Australia and the rest of the world to hear what we’ve been labouring over for the past year.”

Fresh Violet Releases New Music Video And Single ‘Natural Born Killers (feat. Mr Ruckman)’

Fresh Violet is back with an exciting new video and single ‘Natural Born Killers (feat. Mr Ruckman)’ taken from her forthcoming debut album 50 Shades Of Violet – set for release later this year. The clip reflects a darker more playful energy from Violet, reinvigorating the sound from her 2017 single Gangsta whist maintaining the unapologetic attitude from her 2018 prelude EP ACKBARS.

Taking on a Harley Quinn and Joker styled relationship, the short film for NBK drips with inspiration from the film of the same name released in 1994. It displays Violet and Mr Ruckman on a wild rampage through the city streets, ticking off members from their hit-list with each verse. The intricately scripted, call-and-response wordplay delivers an exciting performance with unnoticed double-entendre punchlines jumping out from the duo with each listen.

Natural Born Killers unveils an impenitent honesty to Fresh Violets personality, showcasing a never before seen anger in her work, revealing one of the 50 Shades of Violet that can be expected from her highly anticipated debut album.
