The Queen Bee is back to assume her throne. Lil Kim has announced that a new project is on the way.

As spotted on HipHopDX the legendary rapper has confirmed that she has a new album slotted the summer. She made it official on her Instagram account. “Drip Too Hard,” she wrote. “My boo @beatbytwiggy @danteblandshaw @shanejustin | ‘Go Awff’ Video out Friday | New Album ‘9’ drops May 17th #goawff.”

Titled this is the first studio album Kimmie Blanco has released since The Naked Truth in 2005. 9 was originally supposed to drop in late 2018 but was pushed back as the lead track “Nasty One” didn’t connect with the masses. Thus far Rick Ross is the only confirmed guest appearance.

A video for her new single “Go Awff” will be released this week. You can listen to it below.

The 2019 Grammy Nominations Are in and Hip-Hop Dominates

The 2019 Grammy nominees are in and Hip-Hop is dominating, again. It’s that time of year where music’s brightest stars from all genres get judged for the music they put out this year by the one and only Recording Academy. It’s up to those voting members to see who is the best of the best, of course, by their “standards.”

In the decades Hip-Hop has been around, only twice did artists within the Hip-Hop community win album of the year. In 1999, Lauryn Hill won for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and 2004 was  OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which are both very deserving albums. Hip-Hop is more in the mainstream each day, evident by the chart positioning of Astroworld, Dummy Boy and Scorpion all ruling Billboard’s Top-10. I mean who other than maybe Ariana Grande has had a bigger year than Travis Scott? Or how about Drake just becoming the number one selling artist in the U.S. of all-time according to RIAA. The Recording Academy better put some respect on our name. Whether people want to admit or not, Hip-Hop IS popular music and we should hope that the coveted Grammy awards recognize this, which means a lot of our artists should take home some mini-gold phonographs for their mantles.

So who are some of top nominee’s?
For category 1 – “Record Of The Year”, five of the eight nominees are hip-hop acts. That includes Childish Gambino for This is America,” Cardi B, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny for I Like It, Drake for God’s Plan,” Post Malone’s Rockstar, featuring 21 Savage and Kendrick Lamar and SZA for All The Stars.”

“Album Of The Year”, again we have five artists from the hip-hop community, six if you count Janelle Monáe as part of our community, out of the eight acts nominated. Nominees include Drake for Scorpion, Cardi B for Invasion of Privacy, Post Malone Beer Bongs And Bentleys, H.E.R. for her self-titled debut album and lastly, the Black Panther soundtrack which comprises mostly of Hip-Hop.

“Song Of The Year” which is the songwriters biggest award, we hold four of the eight spots for nominee’s including Childish Gambino for This is America,” Ella Mai for “Boo’d Up,” “God’s Plan” by Drake and again, “All The Stars” from K. Dot and Miss SZA.  Some other notables in the Hip-Hop/Rap specific categories are SICKO MODE for “Best Rap Song,” Swimming by Mac Miller, Victory Lap by Nipsey Hussle, Daytona by Pusha T, Invasion of Privacy by Cardi B and Astroworld by Travis Scott, are atop the nominees for “Best Rap Album.”  6lack and J. Cole even got a nod for best rap performance with “Pretty Little Fears.”

Hip-Hop is absolutely dominating the general field at the upcoming Grammy awards, and we should be damn proud about it. We have come along way from not being considered a genre, to most likely dominating the whole show in 2019. People often state that the Grammy’s are based on politics and not generally the best music that’s out there. It’s been said that you need a lot of working parts to win such a prestigious award; like major label support (unless you’re Chance The Rapper), millions and millions of streams and downloads, major placements in film and TV and you have got to have the right relationships in place. Either way, we’re glad to have a seat at the table, kicking our feet up, and being offered seconds and thirds to eat and we even brought the desert ourselves. We’re killing sh*t, let’s be honest and I’m sure Hip-Hop acts will win multiple awards this year. Who do you think will take home the most awards come Grammy season? Fans can stop speculating and confidently rejoice in Solange returning to music. She is dropping a follow up to her A Seat At The Table this week.

As Vulture noted the singer is releasing a new album any day now as per her recent interview in New York Times’ T Magazine. According to the lengthy feature, the new project will “likely arrive into the world fully formed at some mysterious and unexpected moment”. Her description of the direction is just as complex. “There is a lot of jazz at the core. But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle” she explains.

The “Cranes In The Sky” singer also detailed how she is trying to take a step back from being the protagonist of her material. “I realize how much wider, figuratively and literally, my work could be if I took myself away as subject.” Her unique and very lengthy recording process is also revealed. “I like to be able to tell the story in 13 different ways, then I like to edit.” The Times reports that each song for A Seat At The Table were all 15 minutes or longer and then she trimmed them down.

Along with lightly touching on the yet to be named LP she also discussed her creative aspirations from as a child (“My dream was to go to Juilliard”) and shares how even with her popularity she still gets nervous about releasing her projects (“I have this fear living in my body about releasing work”).

XXXTentacion Collaborator Gives Update On Upcoming Posthumous Album

Some of XXXTentacion’s fans may have thought that his career ended with his untimely death, but a forthcoming posthumous album may prove it to be an apex of sorts.

One of XXXTentacion‘s frequent collaborators has given an update on the rapper’s upcoming posthumous album.

In an interview with Genius, executive producer of XXX’s second album ? John Cunningham said,

“We basically started making this next album right after ‘?’ came out. The songs and the ideas and the vision of it all was done or very close to being done.”

He added that all that’s left to finish the album was just “getting it mixed or mastered or a certain thing added. The whole idea, the concept, the songs, [all that] was done,” he said.

Earlier this year, it was reported that XXX had signed a $10 million album deal prior to his death with Empire Distribution. It was claimed that no new material from the rapper could be released “until at least October” because of a clause in his previous contract.

As well as his own posthumous album, the slain Florida favorite is expected to appear on Kanye West’s new album, Yandhi. He recently featured on Lil Wayne’s long-awaited Tha Carter V, while he also appeared on a joint single with Lil Peep, titled ‘Falling Down’.

Schoolboy Q Grief-Stricken After Mac Miller’s Death, Postpones Album

SchoolBoy Q is having a hard time dealing with the death of his close friend Mac Miller, so much so, he’s postponing his forthcoming album. During a recent show in Chicago, the TDE rapper told the crowd that he’s not his “real self” right now, but he’s pushing through because that’s what Miller would want.

“I just don’t feel right putting out an album,” he said. “As y’all can tell, I’m not my real self right now…I shouldn’t even be here right now. But like I said, my ni**a Mac would not want me to be in the house sad. He would clown me for some weird sh*t.”

Q is also not in the mood to do interviews. “I’m just not ready to walk into the radio station and the first thing they ask me is, ‘So Mac Miller’…I’m not ready to deal with those questions. So, right now, I’m not ready to put out nothing.”

Watch him talk about struggling with the late rapper’s death in the clip above. 26-year-old Miller died from an apparent overdose in his Studio City, CA home earlier this month.
