Chicago will have a Clipse reunion, 2 Chainz, and a Chicago HipHop50 performance during the annual Hyde Park Summer Fest. The two-day festival that celebrates Chicago culture will also be headlined by Tobe Ngwigwe.

Clipse is set to perform “Grindin’” and “When the Last Time,” alongside other collaborations and fan favorites.

The festival will take place on June 17-18, 2023, at the Midway Plaisance Park in Hyde Park, bringing in additional performances by Robert Glasper, Jonathan McReynolds, Uncle Waffles, Terry Hunter, and more to be announced. The Chicago HipHop50 set will include Twista, Shawnna, Do Or Die, Crucial Conflict, and Vic Mensa.

“This is a huge win for Chicago and the music industry overall, especially since our city’s hip-hop influence is often overlooked and underestimated,” said Dave Jeff, co-producer of Hyde Park Summer Fest “With the return of Clipse for an exclusive performance, we’ll be able to celebrate a legendary duo alongside the fifty-year anniversary of hip-hop, a genre that Chicago has undoubtedly continued to play a leading role in growing and evolving.”

Hyde Park Summer Fest, a Black-owned, neighborhood-focused festival, has established itself as a mainstay in the south side of Chicago. It is renowned for supporting nearby small businesses and educational institutions as well as for boosting the local economy and creating jobs. The festival provided $75,000 to five local high schools in 2022, supported the participation of over 50 small local businesses, and generated close to 200 temporary jobs in the neighborhood. This year’s festival aims to outperform those successes.

“As a Black-owned festival, it’s important for us to create a welcoming, inclusive space for our neighbors and business owners to celebrate Chicago culture through music and food while honoring hip-hop’s impact on the world,” said Jonathan Swain, founder of Hyde Park Summer Fest. “This announcement is just the beginning of a long list of performers, artists, vendors and community partners that we’re teaming up with this year. There’s more to come, Chicago – get ready for a weekend you don’t want to miss.”

Pre-sale tickets are available now: Two-day general admission pre-sale tickets are $89, and two-day VIP pre-sale passes are $199.

Nick Cannon Launches ‘Future Superstar’ Seminars and Tour in Los Angeles

IMG 9351

The Future Superstar Tour was launched at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, February 25, in collaboration with Live Nation, the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC), and Nick Cannon. Amber Grimes, Lydia Asrat, Sujit Kundu, Datwon Thomas, and L.A. Reid were on a panel of music industry professionals that discussed with Nick Cannon what it takes to break into the business and become a superstar.

A star-studded lineup of up-and-coming musicians, including Zoe Osama, winner of the BMAC x Ncredible Future Superstar grant and the opening act for the Los Angeles performance, performed after the conversation.

Osama is the first of 24 Future Superstar award recipients to be named during the tour. He or she will get a $5,000 cash prize, professional mentoring, and a chance to take part in a local performance. 24 musicians will receive $5,000 awards from BMAC and Ncredible in a collaboration with Live Nation. Together with the grants, BMAC and Ncredible are working together to host an educational panel with music executives at the start of each event to impart knowledge and respond to queries from the public about how to realize their full potential.

The Future Superstar Tour will continue throughout March and into April before coming to an end on April 8 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Big Boss Vette, 24KGOLDN, Samba, Pop Money, and many other artists are headlining the tour, and the Superstar seminars are held before each performance.

Tickets are available for the tour here. You can see images from the Los Angeles opener below.

Judge Orders Kodak Black to Rehab After Testing Positive for Fentanyl

Screen Shot 2023 02 28 at 9.26.18 PM

Last week, a warrant for Kodak Black’s arrest was issued by a Broward County Circuit Court Judge after the South Florida slang spitter failed a drug test earlier this month. Today (Feb. 28), Black aka Bill Kapri, turned himself in with his lawyer Bradford Cohen, who disputed claims that Black failed the test, alleging that the test was mixed up with other urine samples.

In response, Broward Co. Judge Barbara Duffy ordered that the 25-year-old rapper report to drug rehab for 30 days, but his time in rehab will not begin until after his performance at Rolling Stone California this upcoming weekend.

Black was originally placed on probation following his compassionate release by President Trump at the top of 2021 after being sentenced to almost four years in federal prison for illegal weapons possession in 2019.
