Chris Brown Announces New Single ‘Iffy’

Breezy season is approaching.

On the first day of the new year, Chris Brown has announced the first single from his long-awaited 10th solo album Breezy. “Iffy” drops Friday, Jan. 14, along with the video, for which he shared a cinematic trailer.

“BREEZY SEASON COMING! 2022 🎥 NEW ERA UNLOCKED,” Chris told his followers.

He also revealed that Breezy will feature 16 tracks, like his 2005 self-titled debut.

“THIS GONNA BE MY 10th album,” he wrote. “The amount of songs on this one will be the same amount of songs as my first album. KEEP IT CLASSIC… Chris Brown to BREEZY!”

Breezy, the follow-up to 2019’s Indigo, was announced back in July 2020. In May 2020, he and Young Thug released their collaborative mixtape Slime & B, which produced the hit single “Go Crazy.”

2022 is shaping up to be a big year for Breezy, who is reportedly expecting a baby with model Diamond Brown. This would the third child for the singer, who also has 2-year-old son, Aeko, and 7-year-old daughter, Royalty.

Skillz Drops ‘2021 Rap Up’

It’s a wrap on 2021.

On the first day of the new year, Skillz continues the tradition by dropping his 20th and final “Rap Up.” For one last time, the Virginia rapper reflects on the biggest events of the past 12 months in pop culture, music, politics, and more—from Joe Biden’s inauguration to Gorilla Glue Girl to Bobby Shmurda’s homecoming.

Over JAY-Z’s “Encore” instrumental, Skillz raps about other headline-making events including Lil Nas X’s big year (“And I’m gon’ predict this play / Y’all really gon’ be made when you find out he was never gay”), Saweetie and Quavo’s breakup, and DaBaby’s homophobic controversy. In addition to paying tribute to the late DMX and Biz Markie, he addresses Drake and Kanye West’s reconciliation, the Astroworld tragedy, and A$AP Rocky and Rihanna’s relationship.

This marks the end of an era for Skillz, who announced that this will be his last “Rap Up.” “I made a tradition with my pen, but all good things gotta come to an end,” raps Skillz, who also soundtracked JAY-Z’s Hall of Fame video montage.

For one last time, listen to Skillz run it up.

While Skillz may be retiring, Uncle Murda plans to keep the tradition going. He also released his own “Rap Up 2021.”

Daniel Son & Futurewave – “Son Tzu & the Wav.God” (Album Review)

Daniel Son is a 32 year old MC from Toronto, Canada who came up as a member of the Brown Bag Money collective back in 2016. His profile began to rapidly increase in the underground off projects like the Giallo Point-produced debut mixtape The Gunners or the Futurewave-produced sophomore album Yenaldooshi but after spending 2021 dropping a few EPs, he’s bringing Futurewave back in the picture to lace his 4th tape from top to bottom.

“Son Rise” kicks the whole thing off on some boom bap shit with an almost glistening loop showing cats how he does it in his neck of the woods whereas “Full Moon” goes into a more euphoric route sonically talking about having nightmares that’ll haunt him until he’s gone. Rome Streetz tags along for vengeful “Field Trips” going at the throats of those jealous of their success, but then “Nostrildamus” incorporates a soul sample to get on his pusher shit. Meanwhile on “Death & Taxes”, we have Daniel Son talking about not having a choice to lead the way even tough Pro Dillinger’s verse at the start is just decent leading into the jazzy “Hallelujah” speaking on dying for his chips.

Flee Lord comes into the picture for the sedatively-produced “3rd Eye”talking about having records that’ll play when they’re both gone while the song “Stove Dance” goes into drumless turf up until the 2nd half saying he applies a pressure that they can’t take. The penultimate track “Talk to Yourself” has a horn-heavy sound advising to keep his name out these punks’ mouths & “Son Set” with Saipher Soze ends it all with some grimy street shit that hopefully serves as an appetizer for a Divizion Rivals sequel.

I know 2022 literally just started today, but we already got an Album of the Year contender straight out the gate. Daniel Son’s lyricism goes hand-in-hand with Futurewave’s raw production as always, but they really take it to another level much like they did on Yenaldooshi & Moonshine Mix 2.
