NBA Launches Leaguewide Celebration of Black History Month

Nike BHM Warm up 2

The NBA has tipped off its leaguewide celebration of Black History Month. Through the month of February and going forward, the league and each team will honor Black history and support the ongoing pursuit of racial justice by elevating the voices, experiences, and perspectives of Black players, coaches, employees, and fans through various activations across the league and teams.

During February all NBA teams will wear cusom NBA Black History Month warm-ups that feature “BUILT BY BLACK HISTORY.” The “BUILT BY” letters, designed by Nike, were inspired by African quilt patterns while the words “BLACK HISTORY” feature significant years in NBA history when the league’s Black trailblazers broke barriers and stood up for the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Those moments and players include:

1950: Chuck Cooper, Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, Harold Hunter and Earl Lloyd became the first Black players in the NBA.

1958: Bill Russell was the first Black player to be voted NBA MVP.

1965: Oscar Robertson became the first Black president of the NBPA.

1966: Bill Russell was hired by the Celtics as the NBA’s first Black head coach.  The next season he became the first Black coach to win an NBA championship (1968), winning again in 1969.

1972: The Milwaukee Bucks hired Wayne Embry as the NBA’s first Black general manager and team president.

2004: Robert Johnson became the first Black majority owner in U.S. professional sports, purchasing the Charlotte Bobcats expansion team.

2020: A pivotal year for sports and society, the NBA and NBPA agreed that advancing social justice was a shared goal of the 2019-20 season restart.  Players, coaches and teams took daily action to confront systemic racism and mobilize record participation in the civic process.  The NBA family also came together to form the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition and the first-ever NBA Foundation to address issues of racial injustice and invest in economic empowerment in the Black community.

T.I. and Tiny Deny Sexual Abuse Allegations

T.I. and Tiny Deny Sexual Abuse Allegations

Over two dozen alleged victims came forward accusing T.I. and Tiny of drugging them, sexual coercion, and other sexual misconduct allegations.

Sabrina Peterson posted the screenshots to her Instagram story after she alleged that the rapper held her at gunpoint.

The Harrises issued the following statement denying all claims: “Mr. and Mrs. Harris want to be on record and more importantly want the public to know they emphatically deny in the strongest way possible the egregiously appalling allegations being made against them by Sabrina Peterson,” a spokesperson told Vulture. “The Harrises have had difficulty with this woman for well over a decade. They are taking this matter very seriously, and if these allegations don’t end, they will take appropriate legal action.”

On top of the statement, T.I. uploaded an eight-minute video “vehemently” denying “ALL these disgusting, anonymous allegations.”

Tiny previously took to Instagram to defend her husband by posting a picture of Tip and Peterson’s children, adding clarity to the woman’s relationship with their family.

“He was just uncle 2 years ago … 🤔now when did you say my husband assaulted you? Did you change your mind or change it back?” Tiny wrote, adding, “Stop Harassing My Family.”

But the most eye-raising part of the story is Tiny’s friend, Shekina Jo, claiming that Sabrina Peterson recruited other women for the Hip Hop couple. Moments later, Shekina returned on Instagram switching up her tune.

She tearfully explained, “Willy used to say to me, she this person, she that person. Yesterday when I said what I said on the Live, okay, I was speaking out of hurt. I was just saying what she was saying about somebody else. I was just only saying that back to her. That had nothing to do with none of the rest of the women.”

Shekina added, “I feel like she’s psychotic. That’s my opinion, ’cause I would never go and attack nobody. What y’all not gon’ do is pull me in something that I ain’t got nothing to do with. I don’t know Sabrina and Tiny and they friendship because they wasn’t friends when I came around. I cannot say that Sabrina recruited nobody for them because I don’t know. I know that ’cause Willy said that. I’m crying ’cause it’s hurtful, friend.”

Peterson responded to the couple’s denial on Instagram and suggested that they take a lie detector test. “LETS TAKE A LIE DETECTOR TEST!” she wrote before alluding that she plans to take this to court.

Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir Fire Off $30M Class Action Lawsuit

Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir Fire Off $30M Class Action Lawsuit

Kanye West’s Sunday Service was a cultural reset at a time when his iconic legacy was plagued with controversy and mental health issues. But it looks like he wasn’t taking care of the choir that serenaded the Sunday service goers weekly.

Attorney Frank Kim filed a lawsuit on behalf of 500 performers, meanwhile, entertainment lawyer, Harris & Ruble filed a second lawsuit focusing on at least 300 staff and crew members.

Harris & Ruble allege that the crew members’ issue stems from the rapper’s first opera Nebuchadnezzar, which was held at L.A.’s The Hollywood Bowl in November 2019.

Hundreds of hairstylists, make up artists, and costume designers worked without compensation or were paid late.

One hairstylist, Raina Leon, alleges that it took 120 days for her to receive a $550 payment she was owed and was charged $20 to cash her check.

Michael Pearson, who represents the performers in the class action suit alleges that they worked for two days without meal or rest breaks and were only paid $550 despite working overtime.

Additionally, performers claim that many of them sat on the floor for the 10-hour workdays because there weren’t enough chairs. A shuttle bus drove them from their cars to the venue, however, a roundtrip shuttle wasn’t offered and they had to walk back to their cars.

Lawyers are allegedly looking for more victims to join the lawsuit. “They’ve got hundreds of people on board already, but they’re talking to many, many others, who want to be a part of it. People are very upset about how they were treated, saying it’s their worst experience. People in the lawsuit are asking their friends who’ve worked on previous Sunday Services, and they’re jumping at the chance, they want to get involved and talk about their horrible time.”

Another insider added, “When you do things last minute, it’s disorganized, mistakes will happen. When Kanye West does a production, he just says to his guys: ‘Make it happen,’ he has different teams of people to do things, and when you’re under that amount of pressure, you cut corners. Anything with film or music production, they do the art first, it’s a case of ‘let’s get the production done and worry if it’s legal later.”

They continued, “I’m pretty sure Kanye West hasn’t done anything about paying a bill in 20 years, he’d expect people to take care of it. But Kanye can’t have this go to trial, as the jury may not be Kanye fans and just see a rich rapper ripping off normal folk, he can settle for much less or be hit with a $30 million legal bill.”

News of this class action against Kanye West comes after reports that the Sunday Service was suing him for $1 million in unpaid wages. The mogul is also rumored to be divorcing his wife, Kim Kardashian.

Will Asian Doll Appear on ‘Love and Hip Hop?’

Will Asian Doll Appear on Love and Hip Hop

It looks like Asian Doll is ready for her career to take newer heights.

The Dallas rapper teased what is presumed to be a reality television debut on Twitter. “Guess this Tv show??” she captioned the soundless video below.

The slow-motion b-roll is reminiscent of the way Love and Hip Hop edit their scenes. “look like love & hip hop character intros you got sum to tell us ?” one fan wrote.

Love and Hip Hop was once the home for artists who were no longer in the limelight. But following Cardi B’s success on the show, many new artists have been using the platform to market themselves.

The negative connotation of the show sometimes makes it difficult for an artist to be taken seriously by gatekeeping industry peers.

But it looks like Asian Doll is ready for her big break. She’s an independent artist after exiting her deal with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records and has hit a number of dead ends after being replaced on a few remixes that would’ve helped pivot her career.

“Don’t wait til I’m HOT to try to drop them features I did 2yrs ago nshit bitch ass niggas that’s fake love,” she tweeted, seemingly addressing ASAP Ferg, Megan Thee Stallion, and other artists she delivered unreleased remixes to.

Fans React to Wendy Williams’ Jaw-Dropping Biopic

Fans React To Wendy Williams Jaw Dropping Biopic

Wendy Williams’ highly-anticipated biopic premiered on Lifetime on Saturday night.

Although many New York natives criticized her for grazing over her tumulous relationship with NY Hip Hop station, Hot 97, the iconic television host dished on a lot of “hot topics.”

Wendy revealed that she was date-raped by one of her show’s guests following an interview. During The Wendy Williams Story … What a Mess! following the documentary, she described the unnamed culprit as a “one-hit wonder” and said the incident motivated her to move forward.

Wendy did a press run ahead of the release of the biopic and named late R&B singer, Sherrick as the rapist during a conversation with Daily News.

“His name was Sherrick [and] he was a one-hit-wonder, remember the song. It was called ‘Just Call’ and it was number one on the R&B charts and an overnight sensation,” she told The News about the late 1980s encounter.

Sherrick’s widow responded by questioning the timing of her revelation and explained why it’s hurtful. “Sherrick was a beautiful man, a genius with a voice like an angel,” Lynne Conner Smith told Page Six. “We have three amazing children. This is quite painful to not only us but his nieces and siblings.”

In another recent interview with DJ Suss One, Wendy spoke candidly about her one night stand with Method Man.

Although we didn’t get to see the juicy moment play out on-screen, Wendy Williams left no stone unturned when it came to her ex-husband and former manager, Kevin Hunter’s, infidelity which led to a public divorce because he impregnated his mistress.

Wendy Williams has an illustrious career that spans over two decades. She certainly needed a miniseries to give justice to her career’s story pre-Kevin because her come up was monumental, culture-shifting, and deserves a spotlight by itself.

Ciera Peyton received praise for her spot-on portrayal of Williams, especially the infamous moment when she fainted on-air from complications with Graves disease.
