Kamala Harris Makes Surprise Cameo On Brandy & Monica Verzuz

Kamala Harris Claps Back at Donald Trump After his Farewell Message: 'See You at Your Trial'

Brandy & Monica were joined by millions to help celebrate their illustrious catalogs. Before the celebration began, they were joined by Democratic VP nominee, Kamala Harris. Senator Harris, who appeared on the screen behind them, wished the two R&B legends well on their historic night, in addition to emphasizing the vital nature of voting.

“I just wanted to thank you ladies, you queens, you stars,” said Harris. “Thank you for doing this for When We All Vote. It’s so important for everyone. You both used your voice in such a powerful way, and an extension of our voices is our vote.”

Verzuz recently partnered with Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote initiative. 100% of sales from Brandy & Monica’s limited Verzuz merch are going to our forever First Lady’s campaign.

“We understand the importance of people getting out and voting right now,” Monica stated. “And they feel so helpless right now, but that’s how you help yourself, help your community, help your brothers and sisters.”

While Brandy could not help but to “fangirl” at the moment, she echoed the same sentiment. Sen. Kamala Harris donned a Howard University crewneck, repping her HBCU alma mater.

Kanye West Gifts 2 Chainz A SHERP ATV For His Birthday

2 Chainz & Kanye West

It’s great to have innovative friends, isn’t it? 2 Chainz would know. He recently got an early birthday present from close friend, Kanye West. Although the Grammy Award wining rapper’s birthday is not until Sep. 12th, Yeezy decided that the ATL rapper should unwrap this gift before then.

“Woke up to a really dope present- Virgo season is upon us,” captioned 2 Chainz.

A customized gold plate was attached to the SHERP, addressed to the ATL rapper. Proverbs 3:5-6 was written below his name. Many have seen these huge trucks on the West Ranch in Cody, WY. These massive vehicles can drive over possibly everything. They were flooded in Ye’s hometown of Chicago, IL during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Both 2 Chainz and West recently linked at Ye’s new Yeezy warehouse in Atlanta. From riding bikes to potentially recording music, the link up was long overdue.

Today In Hip-Hop History: Marley Marl Dropped The Juice Crew Debut Album ‘In Control Vol. 1’ 32 Years Ago

tumblr pec9caY4Tf1t1yehoo1 640

The title of “super producer” is not one to be taken lightly. For every era of Hip-Hop, there is a man behind the keys setting the tone. Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, RZA, Swizz Beatz, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, The Neptunes, Mike Will Made It and Metro Boomin are among the few who have dictated what Hip Hop has sounded like over the years. Super producers have even spanned genres to influenced music as a whole, bringing the Hip Hop style to the masses.

On this day in Hip Hop history the culture’s first super producer, Marley Marl, released his debut compilation, In Control, Vol. 1 and forever changed the sound of Hip Hop. Before this album, Marley Marl’s true importance to Hip Hop had yet to be openly stated. It was known that he had a hand in some of the biggest records to have out at the time but this album put them all in the same place, proving what Marley Marl was doing to help Hip Hop evolve.

Before Marley Marl, Hip Hop production was quite primitive: the drums were sounded synthetic, the loops were monotonous, and as a whole production was more of a skeleton waiting to be filled by an MC. Marley Marl gave the instrumental life. His signature drum loops and soulful samples brought a new tone to Hip Hop. A Marley Mal beat served less as a compliment to the artist’s ability and more as a fuel to jumpstart the rappers intensity, bringing out the best in him or her.

Commercially, this album was the success it was bound to be. Featuring Juice Crew members Biz Markie, Craig G., Roxanne Shante, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Heavy D and more from Marley Marl’s private army. Pushed by the infamous Cold Chillin’ Records, the album peaked at #163 on the Billboard 200 and brought great publicity to Cold Chillin’ as a top label in Hip Hop. Following this album, the label rose to become a household name in Hip-Hop and Marl Marley grew to become an immortal icon of Hip Hop culture.

Substance810 & Chuck Chan – “Chess Pieces” (EP Review)

This is the brand new EP from Port Huron emcee/producer Substance810. Fresh off his brand new album The Definition Of that came out earlier this summer & as we approach the fall, he’s teaming up with Chuck Chan for Chess Pieces.

The EP starts with “Checkmate”, where Substance810 talks about being the king of the chessboard over a soulful instrumental. The song “Lay Your King Down” with Lupus Dei sees the 2 showing off their wordplay abilities over a dismal boom bap beat while the track “Fischer vs. Spassky” with Deuce Hennessy & Guy Grams finds the 3 talking about how they perform in the same fashion as the titular chess match over a cold instrumental.

The song “Regal Rooks” with Chuck & Killy Shoot sees the 3 talking about how anything they breathe turns out to be sick over a steady beat while the penultimate track “Tactical Motifs” with Deuce Hennessy & General Back Pain finds the 3 going at wack rappers’ throats over an instrumental with a mesmerizing vocal sample. The EP finishes with “Time Clock”, which is easily the most introspective cut on the entire project backed by a Godly boom bap.

Man, Substance810 has really been on a roll this summer because I enjoy this just as much as I did The Definition Of. Chess fans are bound to get a kick out of the EP’s concept behind the game & Chuck Chan‘s production is on point as are the features.

Score: 8/10
